'The Amazing Race' Season 30 Finale Recap: And the Winner Is...

Contributing Writer,

It is the final lap of The Amazing Race as the top four teams (Extreme, Big Brother, Indy Car and Yale) battle it out for the top spot. Not only will the winning team join the ranks of 30 seasons of winners, but they will go home $1 million richer! So which duo will arrive first at Phil Keoghan 's welcome mat for the last time? Let's find out!

In first place, Indy Car leads the final four to Hong Kong where they must find a cute, nerdy guy for their next clue. Let's hope there are no vital documents left behind during this leg. It seems that the more important matter at hand is the fact that Extreme, Big Brother and Indy Car are all friends, while Yale is the odd team out. This might give Henry and Evan an advantage to focus on what lies ahead, or it may just cost them the prize.

For coming in last in the previous leg, Yale must complete a Speed Bump. They must light and hang 40 lanterns. Sounds pretty easy, honestly. This gives Extreme time to catch up after their taxi driver got lost on the way to the clue. The three top teams are trekking behind one another with Yale tagging behind.

One Pinchy Situation

Detours are next; "Hairy Crab" and "Grub Grab." In "Hairy Crab," teams will need to prepare the crabs in a simulated typhoon. "Grub Grab" pulls inspiration from the American game "Telephone" where teams have to listen to customers in a restaurant relay their orders, then decipher which dish belongs to which guest.

Has anyone else picked up on how much Conor of the Indy Car duo complains? I understand these are less than ideal situations when it comes to the tasks, but does he truly believe they would be easy? While attempting to wrap rope around angry crabs, Conor yelps at each pinch. Ultimately, he and Alex decide to switch so that his dainty digits aren't lost at sea. (He does use them for his job, you know.) They leave Extreme and Big Brother to fend off the remaining crabs and eventually join Yale at the restaurant.

Henry might know a bit of Mandarin, but his attention to phonetics is what put Team Yale in the lead, leaving Indy Car confused and in the dust. Meanwhile, Extreme and Big Brother have finally wrapped up their new crab friends.

A Broken Masterpiece

The Roadblock looks like the most fun out of any challenge seen so far, possibly ever. One team member must take a bat to old electronics and find two halves of a clue then finish off their masterpiece with a splash of paint. All the while, their partner is handcuffed to a briefcase, looking on. Still in the lead, Yale takes off with the next clue in the briefcase. They have to look for signs pertaining to previous legs which will translate into numbers (the number leg of the race). The numbers, when put into the correct order, unlock the case and reveal the address to the next clue.

There are millions of signs along a busy street and the first two teams to arrive, Indy Car and Yale, are struggling, so they allude to working together, but it seems short lived. Big Brother soon shows up and grabs Indy Car's assistance. Little do they know, Yale has secretly figured the combination out and revealed the location of their next clue. While running away, Henry shouts some helpful words to Indy Car, but they don't catch on. The lead is now significantly growing as Extreme joins their friends in the sea of signs.

Joining other historic Amazing Racers, Yale joins only three other teams when they come back from completing a Speed Bump to win the leg. Big Brother will arrive to the mat in second place, but they aren't happy whatsoever. The thought of losing one of their friends, Indy Car or Extreme, puts a damper in their plans.

Extreme figures the combination and gets to the map in third place, rounding out the final three teams in the finale. Sadly, after passing by the one sign they needed time and time again, having drunkards point it out to them numerous times, Indy Car still cannot put two and two together. Phil delivers the bad news to them himself.

Going home is... Team Indy Car.

The finale three teams leave Hong Kong and travel to San Francisco, California in search of the Willie Mays statue at the AT&T Stadium for their next clue. It's here that they learn they must look for baseballs that the mascot is throwing into McCovey Cove. The balls will give the correct number of home runs Willie Mays hit in his career. A minor injury is had as Cody twists his ankle running down a ramp. Does this stop him? Not at all. He continues to tackle the task like a beast!

Hold on to your britches, folks, this next Road Block is quite the doozy. It involves climbing up the tallest structure in the history of The Amazing Race, the Bay Bridge. Keep in mind that Cody sprained his ankle, one member of each team must pull themselves up the bridge by rope, then once at the top, they have to freefall 20 stories into a black abyss to return to their teammate. Yale has quickly found their way to the back of the pack as Evan struggles to reach the platform.

Now teams have to make fortune cookies. (What will this show come up with next? I would much rather eat them than make them, but to each their own.) Just when you count Yale out, they come right back. Henry and Evan catch up to Extreme and Big Brother, folding cookies and filling out trays. Team Extreme is on a mission, though, and hurriedly advances to the next stage of the leg. Big Brother finishes next but loses their spot in second place while frantically scouring the streets for a taxi. This is anyone's race!

The Ultimate Ending

The last of this season's tasks is pretty cool, yet incredibly difficult-looking as far as endurance. Extreme is the first team to the USS Hornet where they will search the ship for 12 parts that, when assembled, construct a miniature plane. Back and forth, teams must run all around the ship, searching for these pieces and then one of them has to muster up the mental strength, while exhausted, to put the thing together.

So get this...The pieces are adorned with images that represent various legs of the race. Not all of the pieces need to be used, only six of them fit. You simply have to arrange the correct pieces so that each leg is represented. It's the ultimate puzzle. Yale has been known as the brains of the race, but at any moment the other teams could find the correct combination. One after another, Jenn, Henry and Jessica receive a thumbs down from the judge. Tensions are at an all time high as hours have passed by and Phil continues to wait at the opposite end of the ship.

Personally, I think this is A LOT to put on just one person after an entire race of locations to remember. Why not allow both teammates to play their part in the end? I wonder if Evan will hang this over Henry's head if they fail to win.

After seeing that Henry had the correct combination and second guesses himself (gut wrenching to watch), Jessica gets it right. She rolls her plane over to Cody and together they run to the mat where the much coveted words "You have won The Amazing Race," are spoken over the applause from their former competitors.

The winner of The Amazing Race is... Team Big Brother!

Well, it looked too good to be true from the beginning that Jessica and Cody would continue to be such a fan favorite and strong competitor throughout the race, but they did it. Did your favorite win? Were they the team you guessed would win it all? Join the conversation below and let us know what you think!
