Hi Carrie & Natalie,
I just stumbled upon this old post about Neilsen, and it dawned on me that I've been seeing calls from "Neilsen" on my caller ID lately. I haven't answered, as I thought it was telemarketing. I also just received a large envelope in the mail that says it's from Neilsen. Again, wasn't in a rush to open it because I figured it was junk mail. But after reading this post, I am intrigued. Carrie, is this how your whole process started, and if you want to reply privately, this is fine. How much do you get paid to do this?
Thanks,
Crystal

That's great. My family did something like this too. It wasn't neilsen...and it was years ago..but it was a different ratings company that pays. We had to wear these tiny devices all day (and then we put it on a charger at night)...and it also picked up whatever we watched on tv, dvr etc. We did it for a 2 year period and we got paid monthly for it too. My kids were little and they were able to do it too which started their savings accounts nicely for them. It wasn't a super amount of money but it was something for doing nothing really and it was nice for the kids to earn a little money too. Funny because i can't remember the name of the company now but at first i wasn't sure it was legit and had to research it and it all was on the up and up.

I'm hoping to find out more when the box gets here. My son told the lady he only watches Hulu and Netflix and she said not to worry, it would pick it up.

That is interesting that they say they pick up streaming since I've never heard of neilson reporting any numbers for netflix/amazon/cbsaa/etc.

A few weeks ago I got a letter from Nielsen, along with 2 crisp dollar bills, saying they'd be calling me to ask about my viewing habits. They called, and I answered some questions, the general, how many in household, ages, sexes, income range, and what channels I've watched in the last 3 days. No biggie, didn't hurt me any to answer, so I did. Now, in the early 90s, I was chosen to record in a little booklet what I watched for a month. Wasn't a lot, as it was when I was working 3 jobs and full time student.
Anyhow, so I got another letter last week, saying they'd call. They called Sunday, and we were chosen to be an actual Nielsen house! As in what I watch represents a lot of people. They shipped our devices we use to record what we watch and listen to (something about beacons that each show and station put out, I don't understand how it works). They don't do the box attached to your TV any longer, and they pick up streaming, too. I asked about DVR, as I watch 99% of my shows from the DVR, they said it picks it all up, even the streaming services.
This is so cool. She explained the financial compensation, we get paid monthly, but I wasn't really paying attention to be honest. I am more excited that I actually have a voice in hopefully keeping the shows I like on the air LOL

While everyone in the entertainment business assumed that the glitz and glamour of the 47th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards would be zilch this year due to setbacks and cancellations caused by the coronavirus pandemic, the excitement has actually been amped up several notches. The awards ceremony will be returning to television via a broadcast on CBS on Friday, June 26, and the official nominees set to compete in the event were just announced via The Talk and ETOnline. Let's just say, it's going to be an exciting race!
The competition was fierce this year, with The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS) reporting that it received 2,700 submissions to compete in its 100 categories honoring individuals and programs broadcast between 2 AM and 6 PM, as well as certain digital and syndicated programming. ABC's General Hospital led the pack with a total of 23 nominations, including ten acting nominations.
If it seems that this year's announcement was later than normal, that's because it was. The official nomination announcement was originally scheduled to take place in April, but NATAS CEO and President Adam Sharp revealed in mid-April that the organization bumped the date to May because "we extended our judging window somewhat to account for [the current health concerns]." (As a reminder, the pre-nomination process was scrapped this year.)
As Soap Central previously reported, NATAS implemented some new submission rules this year, including allowing all of the eligible performers to enter the category they feel best fit their gender identity. The Outstanding Younger Actor and Younger Actress in a Drama Series categories were merged into a non-gender specific Outstanding Younger Performer in a Drama Series category. Somewhat ironically, all of this year's Younger Performer nominees ended up being female. Other changes were implemented for creative categories, which you can read more about here.
And without further ado, here are the nominations for the 47th annual Daytime Emmy Awards in the major categories. To review all of the nominations, including the Creative Arts and Technical categories, click here
