Dancing With the Stars is losing one more familiar face, but adding another, ahead of Season 29..
ABC announced Tuesday that series veteran Derek Hough will serve as a judge for the upcoming cycle. He'll replace Len Goodman, who is unable to judge this season due to coronavirus travel restrictions; Goodman will, however, be involved "in a different capacity" while living in the U.K.
"This show has been and will always be incredibly special to me," Hough said in a statement. "Coming back feels like coming home, and I couldn't be more excited to be back in the ballroom."
Hough, who will sit alongside returning staples Carrie Ann Inaba and Bruno Tonioli, has six Mirrorball wins under his belt from his time as a pro partner (with contestants Brooke Burke, Nicole Scherzinger, Jennifer Grey, Kellie Pickler, Amber Riley and Bindi Irwin). He has judged NBC's World of Dance for the past three seasons with Jennifer Lopez and Ne-Yo, and he's also been a fixture on ABC's recent Disney Family Singalong specials. (UPDATE: An NBC rep has confirmed that Hough's DWTS gig will not affect his status on a potential fifth season of World of Dance.)
And this will be the second time a Hough sibling has sat behind Dancing's judging table: Julianne Hough, who previously served as a pro dancer on the show, later judged contestants on Seasons 19 through 21.
Dancing With the Stars, now hosted by Tyra Banks, returns Monday, Sept. 14 at 8/7c on ABC. The Season 29 cast includes Carole Baskin (Tiger King), Chrishell Stause (Selling Sunset), Cheer coach Monica Aldama, rapper Nelly, Backstreet Boys alum AJ McLean and more; see the full roster here.

Tonight we celebrate Juan Pablo's season, he is the soccer player and single dad from Venezuela. He started as one of the most beloved Bachelor's but something went terribly wrong. The sexiest man alive becomes the most hated man in America.
This is the last time Chris H. is coming from his home, with his son Joshua doing the filming. Tonight, we see the woman who put Juan Pablo in his place, the next Bachelorette, Clare Crawley.
Juan Pablo was the first Latino Bachelor and claims to speak the language of love. He is looking for a wife that wants love and appreciates family. Not only is he looking for the love of his life, but he is looking for a mother for his daughter.
Amy. F, Nikki, Chelsie, Lucy, Clare, and many more, had high hopes.
Time for the women to get out of the limo, Cassandra is first, then Danielle, Alli, Nikki, Andi, Christine, Renee, Clare, and more. Juan Pablo thanks the women for being there, he can't believe how many eyes are looking at him. He sits with the women, one on one and gets to know them better. Andi tells him that she is an Assistant District Attorney, he has an immediate attraction to her.
Sharleen tells him that she has lived in Germany for the last three years and doesn't speak a word of Spanish. Juan likes Sharleen's looks and culture. With Renee they talk about his daughter, they are both parents. Lucy is happy, a gypsy that doesn't wear shoes. Chelsie takes goofy photos with Juan. Time for Juan to give out his first roses.
Clare's father died of cancer and before he died, he made a DVD for her future husband, and she has not even looked at it.
Juan Pablo blindfolded Claire for their date, Elise couldn't believe he did it. In the car, Claire tells him that she is nervous. The date card said they were going to chill, she has no idea what he has in store for her. She gets out of the car and he tells her to jump on his back, he carries her to a spot in the snow, it is a winter wonderland in the middle of LA. They go sledding together and Juan Pablo is loving it, seeing the happiness on Claire's face.
They are having a blast, he makes her feel like a kid again. She hasn't felt this way about a man in a long, long time. Next, they go skating, Claire can't skate and spends a lot of time on her behind. The first date with Juan Pablo is going amazing, her chemistry with him was instant, and looks like nothing can go wrong.
The women did really love Juan Pablo and Claire was not the only woman that saw a future with him. Cassandra had a connection with him, and during their date, she opens up to him that she has a son and she misses him a lot. In fact, she still wonders if it is worth it to be there, away from her son. She shows him pictures of her son, he is two-years-old. Juan loves that she is a mom, a good mom, and a protective mom.
Nikki also has a connection with Juan Pablo, she is a pediatric nurse and loves working with children. She tells him that she is super compassionate and has a huge heart, but she has never dated anyone who has a child. Juan loves how she makes him smile, he likes her a lot. It's been a long time since she had butterflies, and she wants this feeling with Juan Pablo to last forever.
Sharleen and Juan Pablo hit it off, she thought he was a good package. But what matters to her if she feels something or not. He tells her that she has class and he likes that. On a date, he kisses her for the first time and she kisses him a second time because she said she wasn't sure. She would love to fall in love. One on one of their dates, she sings for him and finds that she has opened up way more than she ever has with any other guy. She feels like they are on the same wavelength. She doesn't want to get ahead of herself, but she does think they could fall in love.
Her chemistry with him was special, and she knew that they had something. But, what she needs in terms of a husband, is a mental connection. There is a little voice in her head that is telling her it is not right, even though she thinks it is. She believes that there is a missing cerebral connection with him. After much thought, she knows that he doesn't have what she is looking for in a forever. She goes to see him in his room and tells him that she doesn't think she can get to a point of a proposal and doesn't want to take the spot from someone else. Juan Pablo admits that she was going to have a hometown date, but he wishes her well and tells her not to feel bad.
Joining Chris H. from her home via video is Sharleen. She says that Juan Pablo was honest and valued honesty, he made mistakes, but for her, he was missing things that she was looking for in a relationship. She says that Claire is a strong woman, she bares her soul for better or worse and is not afraid to go there; her show is going to be fantastic. Sharleen calls her husband on to the camera, they have been married for years and are very happy. He is good friends with Nick Viall.
Andi Dorfman thought she might end up with Juan Pablo, they really hit it off. There is a connection, but she was worried about getting her heartbroken. She tells him that she is looking for that great love in her life, it is supposed to be easy and fun. He says the number one thing in life that he wants is love. She tells him that she is looking forward to having a family. Andi really felt like a couple with him, and that is huge to her. On one of their dates, they get a key to the fantasy suite. She tells him that she is willing to do it if he wants to. She feels on cloud nine and couldn't stop smiling, it was so romantic. Andi feels like it is a dream that she couldn't even fathom. The next day, Andi couldn't wait to get out of the fantasy suite.
She thought she was falling in love with him, but she saw a side of him that she didn't really like and the whole night was a disaster. She knows that she wouldn't end up marrying him and that he is not the one. She is extremely upset, she feels that Juan Pablo is not taking this seriously. In fact, she says it is so crazy how little he knows about her at this point. She just wants to pack up, call it a day, and move on. They meet together to talk, she tells him she was looking for love. She got to feel things that she never felt before and going into the fantasy suite, and walking up the next morning, she had a lot in her head. She is not in love with him and is not going to be, no matter what good dates they had.
He says it is ok, he respects her. She says it is not ok, she put herself out there and she doesn't like that he says it is ok. She gets offended by the word ok, he explains that English is his second language and maybe he is not expressing himself right. She tells him that she honestly feels like he didn't care to know anything about her. Apparently he said she was in the fantasy suite by default, and that was offensive to her. They hug, and she leaves.
Andi joins Chris H. via video from her new home in California, she is finishing book number three and she is still single. In hindsight, she says she wasn't falling in love with Juan Pablo. She says she will never tell exactly what happened in the fantasy suite, but she will say the time was not used to get to know her, and it was clear that he was not interested in that. She says she thinks Claire will be fine because she is looking for a guy that wants a normal life with her, she knows what she wants.
Claire is getting closer to Juan Pablo, and ends up being in the final two. One of the things she likes about him is how he talks about his daughter. When she looks at him she sees her future husband. She tells him that she is loving, falling in love with him. They take a helicopter ride and have a moment together with no cameras, just the helicopter driver and he turns around whispers something to her and not something that any woman wants to hear.
That he really doesn't know her and said something sexual to her. It was insulting, offensive, and just made her feel awful. Every single woman deserves to be treated with respect and not an object. She thought this was going to be one of the most romantic moments of her life, but it wasn't. If he can't tell her that this relationship is more than physical, then she wants out. She needs answers from him, if he is having doubts, then she wants it on the table.
They sit down to talk, she tells him that she wants to talk. They had a conversation in the helicopter and he could have said anything in the world, he made a comment about stuff that happened in private. He told her that they don't know each other at all. She says that what is important to her, is not the physical, it is so much more. He says it is hard because a proposal is huge because of his daughter. He tells her that she is there because he wants her there because she is special. He promises her a lot of things, and she agrees to give him another chance.
Trista Rehn Sutter and Kaitlyn Bristowe join Chris H. from their homes via video. Kaitlyn says that Juan Pablo was the worst bachelor ever, not what America wanted to see in a man. Trista says she was blown away by his complete lack of respect and manors, it was ridiculous. Kaitlyn says if that is what happened when the cameras were off, she should have run. Trista says she was having doubts and she should have listened to her heart on that date during the helicopter ride.
It is the final day, Claire is so excited and hopes Juan Pablo tells her that he is in love with her, she could actually have a ring on her finger. She is ready to start a life with him. Claire meets with Chris H. and he walks her up to meet with Juan Pablo. She hasn't been in love since her father passed away, and this could be it. She trusts Juan, he really makes her feel safe. They meet and he smiles, asks her how she is doing. She says she is nervous, he says he is too. She speaks first and tells him that they have something special and she believes in him.
He says they have had their ups and downs, and they fixed them. She is unbelievable and an amazing woman. He goes on to say this is the most difficult decision ever, and he has to follow what he thinks is best for him and he has to say goodbye to her. She says this entire time she stuck around because she believed in him. And when they spent their last hour together, he gave her reassurance, which he did, he said he could see himself in Sacramento and have babies with her and his family loves her; he could have backed out then.
She tells him that she lost respect for him, what he just made her go through, she would never want her children to have a father like him. Claire walks away and into Chris H.'s arms for a big hug. Then, Juan Pablo says he is glad that he didn't pick her.
Becca Kufrin and DeAnna Pappas-Stagliano join Chris H. from their homes via video. DeAnna says that her heart broke for Claire, how disrespectful can Juan Pablo be. She commends Claire for speaking her mind and telling Juan Pablo how she felt. Becca says she was happy that Claire put Juan in his place, and people got to see how strong she is.
DeAnna hopes that for Claire, she can relate to all the emotions that the men are going to go through in her season. DeAnna says she was screaming for joy when she heard that Claire was going to be the Bachelorette and she has all confidence that she is going to choose someone that she genuinely cares for and can build a substantial relationship with. Becca says that one bit of advice she would give to Claire is to take a little alone time when she goes through her season to be able to pick the man of her dreams.
Back to Juan Pablo's journey, we see him on dates with Nikki. What she feels with him, is nothing that she has ever felt before.. She ends up telling him that she was in love with him, she wants a forever and wants it with Juan Pablo. It is the final day and Chris H. walks Nikki down to Juan Pablo. She wants to hear all the things that he has wanted to say to her but hasn't. She thanks him for everything and tells him it has been amazing. She wants to be a part of his life and she wants him to be a part of hers. She says she didn't expect to feel this way, but she is glad that she does, it is a once in a lifetime for her, she can't imagine spending the rest of her life without him, she loves him..
He thanks her, and tells her that he loves so many things about her. He loves her honesty so much, she is like him, very honest. He tells her that she would be a good step-mom for Camilla, his daughter. Her dad made him think a lot, he said that he should be 100% sure if he proposes. He says he has a ring in his pocket, but he is not 100% sure that he wants to propose to her, but he is 100% sure that he doesn't want to let her go. He asks her if she will accept his final rose, she says yes. They kiss and he says he likes her a lot. Obviously he was looking for a girlfriend and not a wife.
We see the After the Final Rose episode, Juan Pablo and Nikki are together and Chris H. asks him if he loves her, and he says what he is feeling with Nikki is fantastic but he won't talk about love.
Nikki joins Chris H. from her home in Kansas City. She says that Juan Pablo was smooth, different than any guy that she dated before. She knew they had something special, and though she was getting a proposal, and he asked her to be his girlfriend. She had no idea what she was in store for, but looking back, she is ok with it. She says it still hurt, she put herself out there and wasn't meant halfway.
He got in some hot water, and she wanted to stick up for him. He rubbed a lot of people the wrong way and it was hard for her because she wanted to pick up for him because she cared about him. She tried to make this work, she dated him for a year. They moved to the same city, she wanted him to fully commit and that never happened. She is still working as a nurse, she is married. Chris H. tells her that he is proud of her and the children she works with are lucky to have her. She says she loves what she does and it's like her second home.
Claire joins Chris H. from her home, she is quarantine before her season of the Bachelorette. She says that the whole thing with Juan Pablo still affects her life today, it has been such a journey. She says it took a lot of self-reflection and growth. She wants to thank him because if it wasn't for him, she wouldn't be the woman she is on some level. The biggest thing is that she realized how capable she is, gone through a lot, and learned to love herself. She is excited about her season, she has prepared so much for this and she is ready.. Chris H. says they are not going to be traveling the world. She says that is great, she doesn't want someone that is excited about beautiful locations. She wants to get to know the men.
