[Reality-TV-Fanatics] Arnold Schwarzenegger undergoes emergency open-heart surgery: Report

Arnold Schwarzenegger undergoes emergency open-heart surgery: Report

Suzy Byrne 1 hour 14 minutes ago

Suzy Byrne 1 hour 14 minutes ago
Per TMZ, the Terminator star, 70, was at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles on Thursday for a catheter valve replacement when complications arose during surgery, which was described as "somewhat experimental." When the replacement failed, doctors decided that he'd have to have the emergency open-heart surgery.

The procedure lasted several hours, the website reports. Schwarzenegger's reps have not yet confirmed the news. Yahoo has reached out for comment.
The action superstar, former California governor, and former Mr. Olympia has had heart surgery before, in 1997. In a 2016 interview on In Depth With Graham Bensinger, the father of five said that his family has a history of heart problems. (His late mother's heart had two valves that "didn't work well." Her mother also had a valve problem.) He talked about having two valves replaced ("the aortic valve and pulmonary valve") and how the procedure failed. They had to repeat the procedure immediately, which was life-threatening, and he admitted that he had thought there was a chance he would die. "Luckily it all turned out well," he said. "Now, 19 years later, I still have the same valves and everything is standing fine."

Did 'Grey's Anatomy' Just Introduce McDreamy 2.0?

Oh, what a difference 24 hours made on Grey's Anatomy episode 17, titled "One Day Like This." Owen arrived in Germany to declare his love for Teddy, but their romantic reunion was short-lived. April may finally make amends with God after getting a lesson about faith from a dying rabbi. But it was Meredith who could finally have found a suitable Derek follow-up after meeting Nick Mars (Scott Speedman), a handsome transplant surgeon and recent kidney recipient who collapsed at Grey Sloan Memorial during an organ recovery.

Grey's Anatomy Recap: A New Love Interest for Meredith?>>>

Two Strikes

Meredith has been shafted in the romance department. She lost the love of her life, the world-renowned neurosurgeon and all-around perfect male specimen, Derek Shepherd. But while life might not always go on for the patients at Seattle's fictitious hospital, there has to be a post-McDreamy existence for Meredith.

Meredith jumped back into dating a little too soon when she hooked up with hot army surgeon Will Thorpe. It's a bit unfair that Meredith's rebound was intense, gorgeous and sensitive because he never stood a chance. After a couple of good dates turned into even better sex, Meredith had a total freak out, and Dr. Thorpe was out.

Next came the mildly-roguish Nathan Riggs who proved to be good for some car sex but came with a lot of complications and baggage of his own. Riggs possessed a modicum of charm, but the heart surgeon was hardly in Meredith's league. Meredith and fans alike weren't heartbroken when Riggs was reunited with his long-lost love and Owen's sister, Megan. The twosome parted as friends, and it looked like Meredith was going to be content to perform award-winning surgeries, raise her kids and fulfill her physical needs with the help of a detachable shower head.

Third Time's a Charm

But out of nowhere, Meredith is suddenly back in the game, and Nick Mars could be the second great love of Meredith's life. Mars and Mer were destined to be a "ship" that passed in the night if he hadn't suffered complications from his kidney transplant, but fate intervened. Even the most steadfast McDreamy fans couldn't help but be excited by Mars. It's not just that he's smokin' hot -- the man looked gorgeous in the midst of a medical crisis -- but there was a palpable chemistry between him and the often standoffish Meredith Grey.

It's hard to ignore how perfect a match "McMinnesota" (or "McMayo") is for Meredith. He's single but has taken on the responsibility of raising his niece because his sister is a hot mess -- Meredith can relate to having crazy relatives. He's a transplant recipient while Meredith gave up a good portion of her liver to save her father. He's so dedicated to his patients that he went back to work a mere five weeks after receiving his new kidney, and he respects Meredith's accomplishments but isn't intimidated by them.

Meredith isn't exactly an open book, but Mars was able to get her to reveal her Plan B (what she would do if she couldn't be a doctor anymore.) Who knew Meredith would move to a small town in Italy where everyone seems to live to a ripe old age, drinks wine, raises chickens, grows vegetables and never gets sick? After 14 seasons, it's nice to know fans can still be surprised by Meredith, which is why she not only needs a new love interest, but one viewers can get on board with.

Meredith has always maintained that when it comes to romance, she's loved, she's lost and she's done. But after meeting Mars, she confided in Alex that the Minnesota doc made her feel things she hadn't felt since Derek (Mars made us all feel things we hadn't felt since Derek.) Interestingly, Speedman isn't the first Felicity alum to woo a Grey Sloan Memorial doctor. Scott Foley -- Noel Crane on the teen drama -- played Henry, Teddy's tumor-ridden dreamboat (now deceased) husband.

Mars is recovered and presumably on his way back to Minnesota, and Meredith will focus on replicating mini organs, and that means viewers will have to endure several recycled relationships and the dreaded "Jaggie" while we wait and hope for Mars to return.

Is it time for Meredith to finally move on? Do you hope Scott Speedman returns? Is Mars Meredith's Plan B? Let us know what you think in the comments section below.

Roseanne is back for season 10 after a 21-year-hiatus, and fans are curious what has become of the sharp-tongued matriarch of the Conner family and her tight-knit brood. In the season 9 season/series finale, viewers learned th at much of what we knew about the Conners after nine years wasn't true: the family winning the lottery was pure fiction, written by Roseanne (Roseanne Barr) following the death of her husband, Dan (John Goodman). Jackie Harris (Laurie Metcalf), Roseanne's sister, was gay, high-school sweethearts Darlene (Sara Gilbert) and David (Johnny Galecki) who married and had a daughter together were never a couple. David was actually with Becky (Lecy Goranson), the oldest Conner daughter, and Becky's dim-witted husband, Mark (played by Glenn Quinn who died in 2002), was involved with Darlene.

These revelations erased the ridiculous hijinks of the new-moneyed Conners that plagued the series' final season but also unraveled core relationships. So, with the show returning, some of these wrongs are corrected while others aren't addressed at all, leaving it up to fans to accept the Conners as they ar e in the present. The end result is disappointing on many level

The More Things Change ....

Dan is still alive, and he and Roseanne have remained happily married. All of the Conner kids are back with the exception of Jerry, t he youngest boy, whose absence is explained in the premiere. Jackie is also still in Lanford and as aimless as ever. The family has grown as Darlene now has two children, Harris (Emma Kenney) and Mark (Ames McNamara), and son D.J. (Michael Fishman) has a daughter, Mary (Jayden Rey.)

In some ways, much hasn't changed for the blue-collar family who hung out at the bowling alley, the mall, the local dive bar or just around their kitchen table. The show used to derive humor from the setbacks the Conners faced as they dealt with disrespectful and disobedient kids, crazy relatives, thankless jobs, unbearable bosses and marital strife. Dan and Roseanne are still struggling financially, only now they're older and trying to figure out how to put food on the table and pay for healthcare.

Life has been tough for the Conners, and when a show's main characters have been beaten down, not much humor remains. The Conners' current state reflects what many American families face after years of increasing income disparity, wage stagnation, the loss of jobs overseas and the waning powers of unions, but viewers who are looking to the Conners to remind them that every blow can be cushioned with a snarky-one liner aren't going to get that reassuring comfort this time around.

No matter what obstacles characters faced on the original incarnation of Roseanne, the family remained an affectionate clan, maybe not in the t raditional sense, but Roseanne knew when to administer tough love and when to be softer and nurturing.

Now, the Conners feel like a family who have been apart for decades -- just like the actors who play them. Watching the Roseanne reboot is like watching a poorly-rehearsed play where characters move around each other cautiously and awkwardly. They deliver uninspired jokes and wait for chuckles from the studio audience that don't erupt from deep within the belly but are rather polite acknowledgements, most likely encouraged by a crew member holding up a sign that says "Laugh."

< /font>
Will the Real Roseanne Please Stand Up?

Given the apolitical but progressive tone of the original Roseanne, fans will be confused by the revival. Roseanne -- Barr has been an outspoken Trump supporter -- voted for Trump. This makes sense in some ways. The Conners are one of many families that FOX News talks about, who Trump spoke to and who ever yone else appears to have forgotten.

In the premiere, it's revealed the 2016 presidential election caused a rift between Roseanne and Jackie, who are supposed to represent each side of the warring factions that continue to divide the country now that we're neck deep in the Trump era. Roseanne keeps her reason for voting for Trump simple -- jobs. Jackie doesn't have an argument for her political "convictions," so the two throw out cheap shots regarding pantsuits and Russian salad dressing..

If Roseanne wanted to tackle how differing political opinions have caused not just the country to implode but households as well, th e writers needed to dig a bit deeper. How does a woman struggling to pay for prescriptions justify voting for a man who promised to dismantle the healthcare system? How does a woman who is pro-choice reconcile living under an administration that has waged war on women's rights? And if Trump is making America great again, why is every member of the Conner family struggling? The Jackie-Roseanne feud ends up in a bizarre purgatory between comedy and drama with a relevant and potentially poignant conversation introduced but then dismissed in 20 minutes.

Roseanne was always groundbreaking TV, tackling subjects such as domestic violence, mental illness, racism, abortion and alcoholism, and several of the reboot's storylines reflect ongoing conversations in our current social cli mate such as the complexities of gender identity and the opioid crisis.

In the past, whenever Roseanne took on "taboo" subject matter, it was done organically, woven seamlessly into the fabric of the show. Considering the revival's nine-episode run, the three episodes available for screening resemble PSAs. Although Barr is one of the writers responsible for season 10, this feels like a different show altogether. Maybe it's because Barr has changed, or perhaps, it's because the country, television and the cultural landscape as a whole have changed, and there isn't a place in it for Roseanne -- or this incarnation of it anyway.

/ div>
There are a few genuinely touching moments that remind us of what we've been missing, but mostly it's a hodgepodge of hypocrisy, half-assedness, confusion, absurdity, sadness and desperation (Metcalf plays Jackie with a manic energy that is disconcerting) instead of a warm family reunion. The Roseanne reboot isn't good enough to attract new viewers. Those who are lured to the revival because of sentimental attachment to the original won't recognize these Conners and probably won't like them very much either.

In Paramount Network's "It Was Him: The Many Murders of Ed Edwards," premiering Monday, April 16 at 10:00pm ET/PT, Wolfe joins former Sergeant Detective and FBI Cold Case Task Force Officer John Cameron on his quest to prove that Ed Edwards is the man responsible for some of most astonishingly high-profile murders of the 20th Century. From the Black Dahlia to JonBenet Ramsey, Laci Peterson, the Zodiac killings, and "Making a Murderer" victim Teresa Halbach, Cameron has the evidence to suggest there is no case too nefarious to be Edwards' doing. A calculated and convicted killer, Edwards was arrested in 2009 and found guilty of five grisly murders over 20 years. He died of natural causes in prison in 2011, four months before his scheduled execution. Shortly after Edwards' death, Wolfe learned of his grandfather's identity and his potentially gruesome lifestyle. In an attempt to shed light on his grandfather's dark past and find closure for his father, Wolfe joined forces with Cameron, who has dedicated his life - and sacrificed his career - for his work to uncover the potential true scope of Ed Edwards' murderous life. He has spent years traveling the country speaking with experts, witnesses, family members and friends, all to piece together a colossal amount of evidence that could tie Edwards to some of the most publicized and violent murders of the last century.
