The Voice 18 Recap and Results: Top 17 Performs For Your Votes (Video)

05/04/2020 mj santilli

The Voice season 18 Playoffs air tonight. But due to coronavirus concerns, the artists and coaches, Blake SheltonKelly ClarksonJohn Legend and Nick Jonas will do their thing from home, while Carson Daly hosts from The Voice Universal studios in Los Angeles. The winner of the 4 way knockout will be revealed before the Top 17 artists perform from home.

The Voice 2020: How To Vote For Your Favorite Contestants
How Will The Voice 18 Broadcast Live Shows Remotely? All The Details!

Carson introduces the show and new format while standing in front of the now empty red chairs at The Voice studio in Los Angeles. He's working safely along with a skeleton crew. The coaches remote in from various places. Kelly is in Montana with her family, Nick and John are at their homes in Los Angeles, and Blake beams in from Oklahoma. He mentions that gal pal Gwen Stefani did his hair and makeup.

Todd Michael Hall from Team Blake, Nelson Cade III from Team Legend, Samantha Howell from Team Kelly and Michael Williams from Team Nick competed in a 4-way knockout for a spot in the playoffs. AND THE WINNER IS Michael Williams from Team Nick.

Tomorrow, on the Tuesday results show, the Top 17 will be cut to a Top 9. The Voice uploaded tonight's artist intros to Youtube this morning. Check that out HERE.  The performers sing against fakish looking backdrops. I much prefer the elaborate and creative stages American Idol contestants created for their performances.  Performance order is grouped by teams.

Team Nick Jonas

Thunderstorm Artis  – Summertime from Porgy & Bess – Thunderstorm DOES IT AGAIN. He takes a familiar classic, and totally makes it his own. He never fails to deliver a surprising performance. It's so weird to me that John gave him up. OK. Thunderstorm is whistling. Which I hate. I FREAKING HATE WHISTLING. But maybe that's just me. John calls the performance "magical." He marvels over the whistling. "This was a perfect way to kick off this playoff." Nick shows off his "notes" as he gushes over his new team member.

Tonight, Mega Mentor James Taylor opens the show with a rendition of "Shower The People You Love with Love" while the artists jo

Allegra Miles –  New York State of Mind by Billy Joel –  I prefer the gritty version of this song American Idol contestant Julia Gargano delivered on Sunday. But this is also very good. Allegra delivers the song with beautiful phrasing and impressive range. Blake thinks everyone so far sounds incredible at home "Great job, sis," he says. Nick calls her a force in this competition and compliments her growth. "You owned it. Your best performance," he says.
Arie Moon – Finesse by Bruno Mars – Singing show contestants usually blow it covering Bruno. But this high energy performance is terrific. Arie's runs are so effortless.. She sings with an infectious confidence. If Bruno had set this song aside, Arie could have nailed it as a single. Kelly loved her 90's vibe. Nick is sweating, "I was dancing too much…you killed it."
Roderick Chambers – I'm Lost Without You by Robin Thicke – This is an interesting song choice. Roderick probably picked it to show off his beautiful falsetto, which he certainly does. John loved the song choice. "You're voice is such a cool mix."  Nick says, "You absolutely nailed it." He thinks the performance will "blow up twitter."  Really Nick? You think that performance is gonna go viral? But maybe it will if he says so.
Michael Williams – Sign of the Times by Harry Styles – Michael's knockout performance was impressive. But this week, his karaoke rendition of Harry Style's hit song is is leaving me a little cold. His voice can be rangy, but his tone is thin and flat. Kelly calls him "so rock n roll." She thinks he made it his own. She calls him the "rock n roll vibe of the show." Eh. He lacks the energy and charisma of a rock star. Nick thinks he set the bar high.

Team John Legend

Zan Fiskum – Blowing in the Wind by Bob Dylan – Zan's background is fancy. She performs sitting in her tiny home in the woods. Maybe I'm a purist, but I don't like this song jazzed up with production. It's meant to be performed with a guitar. But her vocal is beautiful. A few too many bells and whistles, but her phrasing overall is lovely. John compliments her artistry. "You showed us every part of your voice. Everything felt so intentional." Kelly calls it "the best version of that song I ever heard." Oh hell no, Kelly.
Mike Jerrell – With All My Life by K-Ci & JoJo – I'm not crazy about this song choice, but it does allow Mike to show off his range and soulful chops, and his take on the song is original. It's not my favorite performance of his, however. John loves his creativity and that he made it his own. "It was really cool."
Mandi Castillo – ¡Corre! by Jesse & Joy – Instead of singing in two languages, Mandi swings for the fences and sings a Spanish language song. Props to her for going out on a limb. She's a beautiful singer. Her tone is so pure and easy. She could be a big star in the world of Spanish music. Or maybe in any genre. "You literally had my little square in the palm of your hand!" says Blake. John is so proud, "You do it so flawlessly. You're so humble and unassuming."
CamWess – Ain't No Sunshine by Bill Withers – Cam is another talented singer who bounced around a bit. He's very underrated on this show, I think. He's soulful with a ton of cross influences, including rock and folk. He's an interesting and skilled singer. He attacks the song's "I knows" like its a state of emergency. It's a compelling performance. Kelly promises that she didn't want to let him go. "You did so many cool tricks with that song." John shouts out the late great Bill Withers. "You nailed it…you're tone is so buttery…honey butter!" he says, glad to have stolen him back from Kelly.

Team Kelly Clarkson

Megan Danielle – Anyone by Demi Lovato – Megan sings another pop song this week. Does she wear braces? She's got a bit of a "shush" sound on her consonants. But nevertheless, she's picking big emotional songs, and she's got the big, big emotional voice to match. Nick calls Megan "gifted." Kelly has loved her since the Blinds. She obviously identifies so much with Megan.. Anybody up against Megan in a battle or knockout had to know they were toast.

Mandi Thomas – I Hope You Dance by Garth Brooks – She auditioned performing opera. But surprise! Her last few performances have been country. Frankly, I'm glad she's not singing opera anymore. Her voice, though, while big, is rather generic.. "It was such a cool vibe," says Kelly. "You can sing anything."

Micah Iverson – Your Song by Elton John – His rendition is closer to the Ellie Goulding version than the original. But he's doing his own thing, here. Micah struggled last time out, although I thought his performance was better than the coaches did. But then, I love Micah's voice a lot. The second half of the song just SOARS! The beginning was a little odd, but overall, this is a gorgeous rendition of a classic. Blake compliments the way he can "explode" on a song. "You never run out of breath." Kelly is so excited. "You are so incredibly gifted…I am so happy you are on my team." Along with Megan, Micah is clearly one of Kelly's favorites.
Cedrice – Everything I Wanted by Billie Eilish – And yet another talented singer who bounced among the coaches. She belonged on Team Legend. Absolutely NOT on Team Blake. But Kelly is a good compromise. Cedrice doesn't need much coaching, anyway.  Cedrice's jazzy, slinky, seductive style gives off shakes of the 80's singer Sade. "You're so crazy cool," Kelly gushes. She calls her a "stand alone" artist.

Team Blake Shelton

Toneisha Harris – What Doesn't Kill You (Stronger) by Kelly Clarkson – Toneisha takes on a huge pop/rock song, one of Kelly's biggest hits, and nails it. She breezes through her rendition effortlessly, soulfully and has attitude for days. She could wind up in the final. John calls singing a Kelly Clarkson song a "bold move." He thinks she'll be in the finale. "If you need a background singer call me," shouts Kelly. Blake calls it the best vocal performance of the night. Good thing she is the first from Blake's team to perform.
Joei Fulco – Runaway by Del Shannon (Bonnie Raitt) – I love Bonnie, but not this cover. She recorded this song back when she was trying to fit into the pop world. It's a dud. Joei has an impressive rock tinged voice, but there are a million better songs she could have chosen. Nick calls her "fun." Blake loves her rasp and calls her "buzz" sound unique. He's so glad he blocked Nick from her in the Blinds.
Joanna Seranko – Rich Girl by Hall and Oates – Joanna performs a smooth jazzy rendition of an 80's pop classic. I'm not sure this is the song to choose at a crucial time of the competition. But her soulful alto cuts through on a thoroughly original take of the Hall and Oates hit. Kelly calls it "fabulous and fun." and Joanna "a captivating spirit." Blake notes that although she kept the original groove, it nevertheless became her song.
Todd Tilghman – Glory of Love by Peter Cetera – Todd tackles another big 80's power ballad. He handles them aptly, but it's all a bit corny. But his raspy voice is big and powerful. Years as a church singer taught him how to connect to a crowd. He'll probably end up in the finale. "You literally ARE the karate kid!" Todd is one of Blake's favorite artists to work with.

Bachelor: Listen to Your Heart – Week 4 Recap and Live Blog

05/04/2020 E.M. Rosenberg

Finally, Chris Harrison has something else to do besides introduce a Rose Ceremony or nod understandingly with empty eyes. Tonight, he will instruct half of the six remaining couples to swap partners, like Bob & Carol & Justin & Kayley. It will be a test of the strength of their relationships, which are apparently growing stale after two weeks.

And it must follow, as the night the day and Dr. Fauci the president, if we want the actual facts, that Julia will be assigned to Brandon. Savannah and Sheridan will inevitably be discarded like those nylon peds they give you when you try on shoes at DSW.

Brandon and Julia get on like a mansion afire, according to press reports and your little sister's Twitter group. As a result, Savannah ends up feeling as betrayed as people who had tickets to this year's Hootie & the Blowfish's Monday After the Masters Celebrity Pro-Am golf tournament and benefit concert.

Adding insult to coronavirus, Season 1's winning couple's prize must be delayed. It's an opportunity for them to work with a noted producer to develop original songs, then tour together. This can only happen once the world returns to normal and everyone has forgotten these people. At least that gives the singers time to polish their act, and to break up before concert tickets go on sale, although by then, no one will have any money left to buy them.

But there's more distressing news, especially for people who already feel Chris Harrison appears more frequently in their line of sight than bird droppings on a windshield. Someone should file a harassment suit against ABC, as the franchise is now offering yet another new series. Starting June 8th, The Bachelor: The Most Unforgettable—Ever! will pay tribute to recycling sweepings from the cutting room floor.

Host Chris will look back at the show's greatest love stories—all two of them—and memorable moments, such as when that skinny blond yelled at the busty blond for lying, and that time the guy with the veneers made out with the gal with extensions. We'll also be treated to a Where Are They Now And Who Are They Shtupping? segment, which will revisit familiar faces that may have different noses.

Sheridan and Julia, Bri and Chris, Matt and Rudi, Jamie and Trevor, and Brandon and Savannah remain as couples to be torn asunder by a cruel and unimaginative production team. At the start of the show, the couples review their current situations. All of them are confident in their relationships, both musical and amorous.

That's why Chris Harrison arrives to complain that everyone appears too content for a new reality show. He also points out that chemistry is lacking for many of the couples, an untenable circumstance when they have to make out with conviction.

He will challenge the pairs by matching each individual with other people for a single date. It's like General Hospital, which had the same dozen cast members for years, so they regularly rotated relationships with each other like Musical Chairs.

Three of the couples will try this cheap gimmick now. Jamie will be going out with Ryan, while Julia will date Brandon and Chris (the contestant) will spend time with Rudi. Sheridan is apprehensive, as he should be, but Julia thinks the experience will add clarity, or at least a session of kissing free of beard burn. The others experience various forms of anxiety that they cannot articulate without the word "vulnerability." They should try chewing on their feet like my dog does.

Chris (the contestant) tells Rudi he's falling for Bri, which Rudi respects, so they have a pleasant afternoon together, during which Chris can reknot his scarf in creative ways. Ryan tells Jamie that she's wearing way too much make-up—no, I said that. He's enjoying being with Natascha, and she's good with Trevor, so this segment is very dull.

Now it's Julia and Brandon's time together. They are co-writing a song, which Julia finds daunting, either because she has feelings for Brandon or because she's barely coherent expressing herself extemporaneously. Meanwhile, Sheridan's writing a song for her, although at this point, she wouldn't doodle on a Post-It note for him. She does feel singing with Brandon will bring the clarity she can't achieve otherwise, since she's incapable of having a conversation any more substantive than one she could have while Speed Dating.

As Sheridan is playing his new song, Rudi and Chris return from their date, followed by Ryan and Jamie. Her lipstick came in its own limo. None of the two couples seem perturbed by the swap-outs, so we can concentrate on the angst surrounding Julia and Sheridan.

Julia and Brandon sing a song about gaining clarity. Somebody donate a thesaurus to these needy people. Afterwards, since they have connected personally and musically, she decides he's the one. Also, she found out his dad is an investment banker.

She returns to the house to tell Sheridan. If a heartbreak song doesn't come out of that conversation, some choice profanity surely will. "I'm sorry," Julia tells the shmendrik displaying more rustic jewelry than a gift store on the Berkeley campus. He takes it politely and stoically, which she views as being "mean" and makes her cry. Wishing her the best with Brandon, Sheridan prepares to leave. This makes her even more upset, and she demands to continue talking about it. You dodged a bullet, Sheridan. Kick the gun out of her hand.

As the limo bears him away, Sheridan tearfully presumes there's something wrong with him. Really it's that he ever considered Julia a good choice for a girlfriend. Next time, get cast on The Voice and sign up for match.com.

Tension hangs in the air like virus droplets as the Brandon/Julia news moves through the house. Brandon goes to tell Savannah that he has feelings for her rival, and it's kind of her fault. "You're 95 percent in this with me," he says about the depth of Savannah's feelings, although he fails to present any charts to support this thesis. An angry Savannah, who wants closure, will not be anyone's second choice. Brandon is about as soothing about it as 50-grit sandpaper. They are so over.

As Savannah boards the Limo to Oblivion, Brandon assures Julia they're good to go. She seems like the type to relish prevailing in such a distasteful stand-off. We all went to high school with someone like her.

Next day, five couples remain. Julia feels relieved to be with Brandon, while everyone else feels the two are doomed. Chris Harrison arrives to gloat over the contrived loyalty test that was clearly designed to drive Julia into Brandon's arms while keeping everyone else paired off like Twinkies in their original packaging.

This week, they will all be performing at a large concert venue with new, equally vapid  judges. Jamie and Trevor will sing a song about love. Bri and Chris will also sing a song about love. No one ever gets assigned The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald. Brandon reveals he's unfamiliar with Pat Freakin Benatar. Savannah got away from him just in time, like in an action movie where the hero flees the scene 20 feet ahead of a massive explosion.

Jamie is again overly anxious about performing with Trevor. Doesn't she know they have meds for that? Julia is glad to have switched to Brandon, much like I was glad to switch to decaf, but Natascha can't resist throwing a monkey wrench into the proceedings. She tells Julia that Brandon would've stayed with Savannah if she had given him the choice instead of the finger.

Julia confronts Brandon about this assertion, which she fails to acknowledge having had a hand in creating. He doesn't have a good response, but to be fair, the writers were working with terrible material. Rather than holding Brandon responsible for being a malleable dullard, Julia just resents Natascha meddling, and vows to punish her. This scenario beats the lyrics of any 70's story song.

The judges arrive: Andy Grammer, Toni Braxton, Rachel Lindsay, and Brian Whatshisname, whom she chose during her season and apparently is still with, so mazel tov. The singing couples must live up to the standards set by the judges for both musical performance and relationship quality.. Personally, mine are The Captain and Tennille and The Captain and Tennille.

Matt and Rudi perform first. They seem to do well on all counts, including proper hair-flipping, hip-swiveling, and eye-gazing. All the judges are pleased, although Toni wishes Matt had strummed his guitar like it was wearing nothing but body paint that said "Good Girls Do Bad Things."

Next up are Trevor and a hyperventilating Jamie, whose dress shows more flesh than a butcher's display case. Observers feel they are not connecting, either due to nerves or that Jamie has troweled on the L'Oreal so it looks like an apprentice mason repaired her jawline. While Andy feels they rallied and finished strong, Toni says Trevor wasn't as present as Jamie. To be fair, her neuroses suck a lot of air out of the room.

Chris and Bri follow, with her wearing a red frock apparently made from the largest part of the bolt of fabric Jamie's dress was cut from. As they perform, we have to watch Jamie having a meltdown backstage while Trevor tries in vain to reassure her. She's more work to get moving than my '83 Isuzu Impulse.

Chris and Bri get raves all around. She admits she told Chris "I love you" right after they sang, but he didn't hear her over the applause. He says he loves her, too, then tells us he wishes his late dad were there to witness their love. Since it's only week 4, something terrible is going to happen to their relationship.

Now Julia and Brandon perform. Simmering rage fills the room like the buzzing of murder hornets' wings, but Julia is not angry at Brandon's pathetic indecisiveness, only at the messenger who informed her of it. Rachel murmurs to Brian that these two have less chemistry than a pair of Fisher Price Little People. After the disappointing reviews come in, Brandon tries to address the damage, but it's like mopping up an overflowing bathtub with a handkerchief.

When they leave the stage, Brandon continues to attempt to make things right between them. Julia recalls how much better her performance with Sheridan was received. That sound you hear is Sheridan's agent laughing.

Ryan and Natascha take the stage next. After much nose-touching and enraptured grinning, the judges leap to their feet to praise the performance. Backstage, Julia is brooding and calling Natascha "a bad person." She can't be worse than whoever trimmed Julia's ends.

Back in the house, a still-seething Julia accuses Natascha of being a backstabber with a needless "c" in her name. Nat insists she meant no harm, although it's about as believable as the stylist who thought sequinned pants was a flattering look for Rudi.

Time for the Rose Ceremony, after which one couple home will go home, or possibly to the bar. First called up are Bri and Chris, who accept each other's roses tenderly. Next are Matt and Rudi, hardly a surprise. Then come Natascha and Ryan. Julia has already Googled a reasonably priced hit man.

Now the final two couples await their fate. After Jamie and Trevor get the roses., they return to the others with her bawling and hugging everyone like they just got rescued from a burning building.

Julia and Brandon must say goodbye. She is bereft at how poorly she was treated by Brandon, Natascha, and apparently the entire Western hemisphere. She wishes she could turn back time and choose to stay with Sheridan. It's like when I order what the guy at the next table has, when what I really wanted was the fettuccine.

Songland 2020 Episode 4 Recap Featuring Martina McBride (VIDEO)

05/04/2020 mj santilli

Songland season 2 continues tonight on NBC featuring country music superstar Martina McBride. In the episode, songwriters will pitch their compositions to the the guest artist and the panel. Afterward, songwriter/producers Ryan TedderShane McAnally and Ester Dean work with the artists. Martina will then choose one song to record.

Everything you need to know about tonight's episode featuring Martina McBride:

Songland Spoilers: Martina McBride Episode 4 – Meet the Songwriters!
Songland 2020: Jeffrey James Sings For Martina McBride (Video)

"I'm excited to be here at Songland to find my next song," says Martina, whom Ryan calls "country royalty." She says, "I'm really coming into this with an open mind. The most fun thing for me at this point in my career is to be open to whatever comes along that moves me." Martina loves telling "incredible stories" and songs that are "big anthems."

The Artists Pitch their Songs

CKAY – Heroes –  A winner of  Showtime at the Apollo, the New York City based singer-songwriter got her start in R&B. Her song is about not answering to anybody and being your own person. She started in opera and appeared on "Showtime at the Apollo." CKAY has been writing songs since 16 years of age. The countrified song boasts a pop beat.  Much like Martina, CKAY is a belter.. Martina imagines the song as a sing-a-long. Ryan thinks her chorus is a pre-chorus. He demonstrates an alternative, that seems to change the song significantly, but we'll see! Martina thinks "Heros" should be directed outward, rather than just about a relationship. The panelists compare the song to something Adele would sing.

H A L I E – Girls Like Me – This Thayer, Missouri native started writing songs at 12. She's got music in her blood:  Her great great great grandpa's cousin was Jimmie Rodgers and brother Michael Tyler has penned tunes for  Jason Aldean, Lo Cash, and Dierks Bentley (Somewhere on the Beach). She moved to Nashville two weeks after graduating from high school. She tears up as she shares her love for music and insists that she has no plan b. Her song is about overcoming self-doubt. The tune is very pretty, reminiscent of the stuff Taylor Swift did during her country years. But, as Martina notes, the theme is not suitable for a mature woman who has been through it all. Martina compliments the melody, but immediately begins tweaking the lyrics with the panel.  Martina and Ester are already scribbling down new lyrics.

WOLVES
 – Miracle – Marc Avery and Sean Carney make up this Los Angeles duo. They call their pop alternative music "Surf Trap." Marc penned the song while thinking about his mom, a hard working single parent. "Marc writes from his heart," says Sean. Marc writes and sings the songs, while Sean handles the beats and guitar parts. The song is heavily R&B, almost churchy. No reason it couldn't be countried up, however. There is a "dock of the bay" lyric which is maybe a tribute to Otis Redding? And the chords are similar to the sixties soul classic, as well. Maybe TOO similar. HELLO LAWSUIT. Martina likes the "feel of it." Ryan and Ester play around with the melody a bit. However, Martina thinks the lyrics are a downer. "There needs to be some hope in here," she says. The rest of the panel agree with her. Marc is OK with a re-write. Of course, he just wants his song on the radio.

Jeffrey James – We Can Be (Heroes) – Originally from Brownsburg, Indiana, his great-uncle wrote the renowned Hal Leonard Guitar Method book. Jeffrey wrote and recorded his latest EP London in the British city. In high school, Jeffrey was the dance captain of his show choir, and also on the basketball team. Currently, he makes a living writing songs for himself, and others. He calls the song he brought to Songland  "motivational." Indeed, it has the big, anthemic feel Martina likes. Jeffrey's got a solid blue eyed soul sound going for himself. Ryan is fascinated by the chord changes, while Martina wonders if "heroes" is the right word. The panel thinks the hook is confusing and needs to change. "Why are we heroes?" Ryan asks. "You need a new b section and hook," adds Ester. Ryan thinks "we" should be changed to "I." Martina agrees. We previewed this performance HERE.

Martina McBride Makes her choice

Martina chooses H A L I EJeffrey James and CKAY to move on to the producer rounds. WOLVES are eliminated. Martina loved the feel of the song, but she felt it needed to be "completely deconstructed" to work. Oh, and maybe that it totally ripped off "Dock of the Bay?"

Producer sessions

Ryan Tedder produces Jeffrey James' We Can Be (Heroes) – Ryan wants to rewrite some of the verse lyrics so that they "read logically," and to punch them up, generally.  The message is a little too preachy, he thinks.  The goal is to feel more emotion, but remain authentic. Jeffrey adds a lyric that Ryan believes makes the song stronger. Ryan wants to ditch the synth strings, and track a guitar. "We need to get a little country in there," he says. He insists that Jeffrey's original version is "very much intact."  Jeffrey is thrilled with the changes. "I can imagine Martina singing the hell out of this song," he says.

Shane McAnally produces CKAY's Heroes – Martina doesn't want to lose the "anthemic feel" of the song. Shane believes he can heighten it. The two work on the lyrics in the verses. "What makes a hero a hero?" Shane wonders. "They save the day." He wants Martina to sing "I don't need those things. I just need someone to stand next to." Shane brings in some "big drums" and strings.

Ester Dean produces H A L I E's Girls Like Me – Martina put Ester with Halie because "I thought you had a real strong connection to the lyric." Also, she loved Ester's hook, in which Martina talks to all the daughters of the world. Ester wants to rewrite the lyric to make the song relatable to all women. However, the theme is similar to another song Martina already recorded. So, they need to keep the concept fresh. "We'll make this song bigger in production," Ester says. What advice does Halie get from her mom, who is the same age as Martina? "I think we need to put that in there," says Ester. "Like a mother's letter to her daughter." Ester teaches Halie how to craft the melody first, so the words don't get in the way.

The Artists present their newly produced songs

Jeffrey James – We Can Be Heroes – The new version is more ballady, with the piano in the forefront. Ryan added a gospel choir to punch up the song's gospel feel. The lyrics are clearer and have more space. Simplifying the message, while punching up the anthemic quality gives the song a classic quality. I haven't been thrilled with Ryan's output so far this season, but he definitely improved Jeffrey's song. Martina compliments the production. Everyone agrees that adding the line "stronger than we know" made all the difference. "It feels so new to me," says Shane, "I have a totally different feeling from when you came out to sing it before."

CKAY – Heroes – "I think this is a happier sweeter melody" says CK about the new version of her song. Indeed, the chorus is catchier and memorable. The lyrics have been completely rewritten. Like Jeffrey's song, the message is much clearer. Martina notes the tempo is faster. "Don't try to fix me," is now the message of the song.

H A L I E – Girls Like Me – Ester and Halie changed the lyrics to reflect an older woman's point of view. Miranda wipes her eye–she's visibly moved. I think it's a boring song, but Martina is crying, so what do I know. Ryan notes that Ester is brilliant at taking apart a song, and putting it back together in a better way. She never wastes an element!

RESULTS

Martina invites all three songwriters to pitch her more songs. "But there was one song from the very beginning that I felt a connection with," she says. Make Martina cry, she'll pick your song!

Martina chooses Halie's Girls Like Me. The young songwriter freaks out like she just won a million bucks, or something. She might have if the song does well.  "Giving this opportunity to a young, up and coming songwriter is everything," says Martina.
