" The pair became romantically involved while the media executive was still married to Wiesenfeld, who was mostly spending time in Los Angeles while Moonves was in New Yor City. In April 2003, his estranged wife filed for divorce.
Later, Wiesenfeld spoke to the New York Daily News about their split saying, "I was uncomfortable coming to New York. I felt that everybody knew about what was going on [between Moonves and Chen]. And everybody did know. Except me."
How Les Moonves Met His Wife, Julie Chen
When CBS chief executive Les Moonves was accused of sexual misconduct in July 2018 his wife, Julie Chen, issued a public statement that she fully supported her husband. After new allegations surfaced in September and Moonves resigned from his position many are wondering if Chen, who has her own successful career at the network, will stand by her man now.
Here's more on that plus a few things you may not have known about their marriage including that when Chen and Moonves started dating he was still married to his first wife, Nancy Wiesenfeld.
How they first met
Chen started working for CBS before ever meeting her future husband.
The two met when Moonves was the president and chief officer of CBS Television and she was a newsreader on The Early Show. The pair became romantically involved while the media executive was still married to Wiesenfeld, who was mostly spending time in Los Angeles while Moonves was in New Yor City. In April 2003, his estranged wife filed for divorce.
Later, Wiesenfeld spoke to the New York Daily News about their split saying, "I was uncomfortable coming to New York. I felt that everybody knew about what was going on [between Moonves and Chen]. And everybody did know. Except me.."
Moonves married Chen in 2004, less than two weeks after his divorce from Wiesenfeld was finalized.
Their age difference
Chen and Moonves do have a considerable age difference between them as she is 21 years his junior.
When they exchanged their vows in Acapulco, Mexico, she was 34 and he was 55.
How many children they have
They have one child together, a son named Charlie, who Chen gave birth to in 2009.
Moonves has three other children — Sara, Adam, and Michael — from his marriage to Wiesenfeld.
Sara is the Style Director at W magazine.
Their net worth
The couple has a combined net worth of more than $715 million dollars.
Forbes noted that Moonves was one of the highest-paid CEOs in the U.S. while Chen has made her money hosting several TV programs including Big Brother and The Talk.
Her statement on the initial allegations
Following the initial sexual misconduct allegations cited in a report by the New Yorker, Chen released a statement via Twitter which read, "I have known my husband, Leslie Moonves, since the late '90s, and I have been married to him for almost 14 years. Leslie is a good man and a loving father, devoted husband and inspiring corporate leader. He has always been a kind, decent and moral human being. I fully support my husband."
Days later, Chen had no choice but to address the elephant in the room during her show The Talk. "Some of you may be aware of what's been going on in my life for the past few days," she said. "I issued the one and only statement I will ever make on this topic on Twitter. I will stand by that statement today, tomorrow, forever."
Now, it remains to be seen if she will in fact continue to support him and what impact, if any, this will have on her career at the network her husband once ran.
