[BigBrother_Survivor] 'Grey's Anatomy' Season 14 Premiere: Megan Arrives, Teddy Returns, and Amelia Gets Shocking News

Since I was out of town I missed the first episode . I really like this show  Course I also like all medical drama shows. LOL. Anyway I wish they would have Meredith have a beau that isn't involved with anyone else. She needs to move on from Derek.

'Grey's Anatomy' Season 14 Premiere: Megan Arrives, Teddy Returns, and Amelia Gets Shocking News

Welcome back, Grey's Anatomy fans! Season 14 (!) is underway and so far it does not disappoint. The two-hour season premiere ("Break Down The House" and "Get Off On The Pain") was directed by Debbie Allen and Kevin McKidd. Even better news? It was written by renowned Grey's scribe, Krista Vernoff. Vernoff, who wrote and produced the show for its first seven seasons, is back as a writer and co-showrunner. Her steady hand was immediately apparent as the story unfolded: the arrival of Megan Hunt, the return of Teddy Altman, the reconstruction of the hospital and a final twist that had my jaw on the floor.

Megan Hunt

The action picks up immediately after last season's finale. Owen and Amelia meet the helicopter bringing Megan home. As Owen rushes to her side, Megan stares at him blankly and asks who he is, before dissolving into a fit of giggles as she hugs her "ridiculously pale" brother. I'm not going to lie. One must suspend disbelief on a few fronts in this episode. The first is that the hospital could have construction workers repairing the hospital the day after the fire. The second is that Megan Hunt, though not well physically (more on that later) is basically fine emotionally. I'm okay with this, not only because it's a clever way to move Megan's story along, but also because it avoids the horror I was imagining she endured in captivity.

Long story short, Megan was of value to her captors because of her surgical skills. Beaten at the beginning of her capture, Megan knew she'd be killed if she tried to escape. Beyond that, despite being a hostage, she was well-treated. However, she did suffer severe shrapnel to her abdomen after a raid and arrives in Seattle with the worst abdominal wound Meredith, Richard, and Miranda have ever seen. Meredith tries a surgical procedure, which fails when there isn't enough skin available to close Megan's abdomen, despite planning for that outcome. Furious and discouraged, Meredith (channeling her late mother, surgical genius Ellis Grey) thinks of another solution and performs an abdominal wall transplant, which is both successful and groundbreaking.

Meanwhile, in more personal news, Megan is thrilled to see Owen and their mom, Evelyn, as well as fiance Nathan and Army pal, Teddy, who has traveled from Germany to support her BFF, Owen. Owen is wrecked knowing Megan has been alive all this time, but Megan (played now (delightfully, I might add) by Abigail Spencer) tells him that's a waste of time. Nathan wants to make up for lost time and proposes (again?) to Megan, but they are interrupted by Meredith. Awkward! And yet, strangely not. After finding out that Owen and Nathan want to keep Meredith and Nathan's former relationship from Megan, Meredith tells Megan about it herself. This is a display of incredible maturity on the part of both women and reminds me how much Meredith Grey has grown as a person.

So it seems at this point that Megan is going to recover completely and quickly, which is especially important to her because she has a child waiting for her in Iraq. Specifically, she's been caring for a young boy, Farouk, who was orphaned. She hasn't legally adopted him yet, but she's the only parent he's even known. He's a Syrian refugee and can not get into the US. He's waiting for her in Baghdad. Megan makes Owen promise that if anything happens to her, he will take care of Farouk. (Foreshadowing?)

As for the marriage proposal, Nathan informs Meredith that Megan turned him down. She thinks he's still in love with Meredith, who walks away as Nathan calls after her.

Teddy/Owen/Amelia

Teddy's back and acting as Megan's advocate and Owen's "person." Being pro-Owen/Cristina, my feelings for Teddy have been, charitably, mixed over the years, but I really like her now. She actually cares about Owen and is acting as a true friend to him. Also, thrilled to see her are April and, especially, Arizona, who is a close friend of Dr. Altman.

The one person blatantly absent from the circle of friends and family around Megan is Amelia Shepherd. Though she rallied to Owen's side in a time of crisis, now that the crisis is over, Amelia doesn't want anything to do with him, focusing instead on a teen's osteoblastoma. She performs a successful surgery, but at great risk to the patient. Jackson warns her she was lucky and that her luck will run out one day. Owen confronts Amelia about her absence, their marriage and her fragile, erratic state, which he thinks is PTSD from the death of her brother, Derek. He wants to help her. Amelia, pointing out that Teddy is clearly in love with Owen, rages at him and refuses to take any responsibility for her neglect of and indifference to her husband. Owen quietly says that the people who love him can't understand why she treats him this way. Gotta say, I wonder, too. #TeamOwen

As Owen and Teddy sit on a bench in the park, he says sadly that Amelia hasn't been home in months. That she doesn't touch him. Doesn't want to be married to him. Wouldn't care if...He leans in and kisses Teddy, who kisses him back before pulling away. "You are my favorite human on the planet," she tells him. And if there's ever going to be more between them, it can't start with him cheating on his wife. He nods and apologizes as she tells him not to worry. "We're good."

In Other News

Maggie and Jackson are awkward after Maggie tells Jackson that April thinks they have feelings for each other. April reaches her breaking point with her relationship with Jackson and plans to move out of the home they share.

Meredith is reading a journal article written by Cristina! Meanwhile, in original cast news, Meredith and Alex continue to support each other as only they can.

In the wake of Eliza being fired, she vanishes completely, leaving Arizona to learn that she's been "ghosted." At a bar, Arizona meets a gorgeous Italian woman and brings her home, only to discover that the woman, Carina, is Andrew "Andrea" DeLucca's sister!

Eliza may be gone, but her sub-interns arrive anyway, causing trouble everywhere they go.

Jo is still in love with Alex, but sleeps with one of the sub-interns "because he was there." Alex mocks her relentlessly. Ben, who with Stephanie gone is Jo's new confidant, tells Alex that Jo is afraid he will hurt her. Bailey points out to Jo that Alex is a "puppy who wouldn't hurt a fly unless that fly was hurting you." After Alex confesses to Jo that he found her husband, he apologizes, saying it was out of line. He also insists he would never hurt her. His dad was that kind of guy and he is not his dad. Jo realizes that Alex met her ex and didn't kill him. They kiss passionately.

Carina DeLucca turns up at the hospital. Turns out she's an OB-GYN who wants Bailey to support a medical study she's doing. Something about women, MRIs, and orgasms. Anyway, a triumphant Amelia decides to be a test subject. Later, as she emerges from the test, Shepherd sees a brain scan with a "beautiful tumor" on it. She asks whose scan it is and is horrified to realize it is her own.
