Meghan McCain Snaps at Joy Behar on 'The View' After Fox News Dig and Whoopi's Left Speechless
Television By TooFab Staff |
Tensions erupt between the two co-hosts during a discussion about the sexual harassment allegations levied against Minnesota senator Al Franken.
Things got uncomfortable on "The View" Friday morning, after a heated debate about sexual harassment in politics led to a war of words between co-hosts Joy Behar and Meghan McCain.
Whoopi Goldberg kicked off the show by reading President Donald Trump's tweets condemning Senator Al Franken's alleged sexual harassment and groping of newscaster Leeann Tweeden during a 2006 U.S.O. tour. That didn't sit well with the moderator, who called our Trump for not speaking out against Alabama Senate Republican candidate Roy Moore or some of the allegations levied against himself.
McCain agreed, saying Trump has had "ample opportunity" to blast Moore. Behar then compared the actions of Franken and Louis C.K. with Trump and Moore, pointing out how the former had apologized while the latter haven't and called their accusers "liars."
"There's a lot of democrats asking for [Franken] to step down, if you can believe it I don't just watch Fox," McCain said, looking at Behar. "Fox is sex harassment central," Behar interrupted (We cued up the clip below).
"You know what. That's so cheap. I'm trying to talk about the fact that I watch other networks and people in your party are calling for the stepping down of Al Franken because of this investigation being a distraction," a frustrated McCain shot back.
Whoopi attempted to interject, before losing her words and simply exclaiming, "Well, shoot."
"I was responding to Joy. I just don't think that saying Fox is X, I know, I used to work there," McCain continued. "We're talking about the present. This is what's exhausting about this conversation. I totally agree with you that it's absolutely disgusting at this point that we're still having conversations about Roy Moore. He should step down. but right now we're talking about another senator."
"We're also talking about hypocrisy, which is what provoked my outburst," Behar explained. "Trump's hypocrisy, Fox's hypocrisy, Breitbart, Sean Hannity, all of them."
"What about the hypocrisy of Bill Clinton right now?" McCain asked, prompting Joy to ask, "Why bring up Bill Clinton at this point?"
It was at this point Whoopi stopped the conversation in its tracks, saying, "We're doing and we'll be right back," before the show went to commercials.
While Behar and McCain have been at odds quite a few times since the former Fox News corresponded joined the show this fall, Joy said they were "very friendly" when talking about her on "Watch What Happens Live" earlier this month.
"I like her. I think she sticks to her guns. I correct her facts once and a while, we get into that a little bit," she said at the time. "Her father is a hero at the moment. He is speaking truth to power and I respect that. I respect that she comes from that family."
