MasterChef season 8 episode 18 preview: The semifinals gets testy
September 9, 2017
When MasterChef season 8 episode 18 starts to air on Fox Wednesday night, you're going to see the foundation laid for an epic finale ahead. There are still six home cooks remaining after the non-elimination that we saw on this past installment, and Jeff, Dino, Yachecia, Eboni, Cate, and Jason all have a shot of emerging from this season as the champion.
Who is going to make it out of this coming episode alive? The preview video below does hint at some more trials and tribulations. In particular, it definitely feels as though Jeff's going to have a tough time given that Gordon Ramsay asks if he's trying to "poison" him with the salmon dish that he brought up to the judges. Given that Jeff's had some close calls in the past, he may be running out of time. He's also got an ongoing battle with Dino that includes a wide array of trash talk on both parties, but it's a battle that Dino seems to be winning for the time being in terms of competition resume. He's probably the overall favorite to win the show at the moment, even if he does have some really good competition elsewhere. Cate and Jason have also both been very strong as of late. While Yachecia has faded a bit as a major contender the past couple of weeks, we're sticking with her given that we picked her to win more than a month ago. Don't want to run away from that now.
Another highlight from this promo: Eboni dabbing. If you're going to be confident in your culinary abilities, why not show it? We want to see more contestants do their own version of touchdown celebrations in the process of cooking!
In general, we'd say that this season is one of the most contentious that we've seen so far, just because we still have several people left who we'd consider lightning rods coupled with a number of strong cooks. Just through listing several possible contenders, it should be fairly clear that this is not a season that is being run with one person head and shoulders above everyone else.
