Big Brother 19 episode 33 review: Bobby Moynihan saves the day

by
If there is one thing Big Brother 19 episode 33 needed, it was an appearance from Me, Myself & I star Bobby Moynihan. The former Saturday Night Live cast member is a noted Big Brother fan, and he brought a lot of much-needed humor to the show tonight. He made fun of Josh and Raven in the Diary Room, he put on one of Paul's pool floaties, and he seemed happier to be there than a good half of the houseguests have been all summer.
Also, Kevin apparently couldn't muster up all that much excitement to see him. Then again, we kind of get it. If we were Kevin at this point, the only thing that we'd be excited about is getting the hell out of the house the first moment we could after how he's been kicked around by the house.

Bobby was there to promote his new show, but also to host the Power of Veto Competition that was all about following patterns of slaps and butt-kicks. It wouldn't be Big Brother without some sort of really stupid, juvenile competition, would it? The good thing about this was that it really just following patterns and trying to make sure that you keep track of certain counts. Paul and Alex were clearly the best at this, and it was actually in this moment we started to think that getting rid of Jason before her was a mistake. He may be a better physical competitor, but she's far better at mental tasks and those are the ones that have a tendency to dominate at the end of a season.
After Paul eventually won after a billion tie-breakers, he solidified the plan at the Veto Ceremony: Taking Alex off the block so Kevin could go up. Josh tried his best to be adamant about Paul not using the Veto, but what he found was that he wasn't getting a lot of support in that. Christmas wouldn't listen and got angry at him when he left mid-conversation. The reality here is that it was better for Paul's game to use it, and Paul is too good of a player to just do something because Josh wants him to. Paul is smart enough to realize that he's got Josh where he wants him — he can use him, and Josh needs him to stick around at the moment. Josh is trapped.

Was there anything fun at the Veto Ceremony?

Not really, but you did have some revisionist history from Christmas in terms of Kevin being the only person who hasn't been on the block. Sure, Cody wanted to nominate Paul, but it didn't actually happen.

Overall

We knew the strategy was coming; having Bobby Moynihan was the clear highlight that sent this episode to the top of our list of our favorites of the season. Him mocking the players was worth the price of admission tonight. Can Bobby just stay in the house the rest of the season, please? Grade: A-.
