When Does American Idol 2019 Start? Full Season 17 Schedule (UPDATED 2/13)

12/16/2018 by mj santilli Check out the FULL American Idol 2019/season 17 schedule below, which will feature Sunday AND Monday shows, just like last season.  The competition returns to ABC on Sunday March 3 featuring judges Lionel Richie, Katy Perry and Luke Bryan, in addition to host Ryan Seacrest.

Good news! American Idol 2019 is one week longer than 2018's season 16. Bad news! The extra week has been tacked on to the auditions. Instead of five nights of Auditions like last year, the upcoming season will feature SEVEN. Boo right? But not surprising, as the highest rated shows tend to be auditions, and I suspect there are financial and scheduling issues that contribute to keeping the live shows to last year's 5 week schedule.

Another notable difference: A Top 12 instead of a Top 14 at the Top of the live shows (Top 14 performances were taped a few days ahead). But I'm a tiny bit sceptical about that. Producers may want us to think Top 12, only to spring some extra wild cards on us. If we ever get spoilers out of Hollywood Week/Showcase/Green Mile, we'll find out..

This schedule info comes from Goldderby, and there is still a ton of info to fill in, so stay tuned.

UPDATE: ABC has announced it is extending The Bachelor through Monday March 11. The ratings have been good, so I am not surprised.

UPDATE: American Idol sent out a press release clarifying the schedule. Also, TheIdolPad.com says there are mistakes in schedule posted by GoldDerby, so we are starting from scratch here. Stand by for updates.
