The news has just come in, and it looks like Julie Chen is going to be around
Big Brother for at least the near future.
According to a report from
Deadline , Chen is likely to stick with the CBS series through at least the end of her contract, which runs out in fall 2019. That means that, pending a change-of-heart on her part, you are likely going to be seeing her as the host for both
Celebrity Big Brother 2 in the new year and then also
Big Brother 21 when that airs in the summer. (Technically, a season 21 has not been formally ordered just yet, but we're considering that to be mostly a formality.)
We know that Chen has close ties to the show and she enjoys being a part of the experience.
She told CarterMatt at the start of the season that she had no plans to ever leave the series, and it seems as though Les Moonves' exit from CBS has not changed that for the time being. We do understand why she wants to stay — this is a popular show with a devoted following, and beyond that it's not an extreme amount of work. Filming takes place a few hours a week, though there is obviously prep time that goes into every show in between understanding all of the inner workings of the house and figuring out the right questions to ask.
There are two more episodes of Big Brother this season featuring Chen — there is one new episode airing tonight, and then also an additional show on Wednesday where the winner will be named. That show is a two-hour affair, and on the other side of it a long break for many months.
Celebrity Big Brother 2 will likely premiere in the first few months of the new year.
