Re: [FunBBGroup] Roseanne update: ABC might put costars in new show | EW.com

I loved the makers of Ambien response.   The none of their known side effects is racism hehe

She's only sorry she got caught.   ABC didn't hide that they were hoping to get the Trump supporters watching, as apparently research showed most Trump supporters felt prime time network is too liberal.  So ABC was hoping to capture a market they didn't have.   So the show was not cancelled because she is a trump supporter.  It's just another grasping at anything tactic.   ABC took a gamble.   They felt that the rewards of having Roseanne Barr on their network now would outweigh the risks.   They were wrong.

I still maintain that had she done those tweets a few months ago, she'd still have her show.  But slowly, America is getting tired of things.  Harvey Weinstein was the catalyst for sexual harassment no longer being acceptable.  Parkland shooting for people to (finally) get tired of mass shootings.   And now Roseanne Barr is the "enough is enough" for racism.    Would be nice if there was equal outrage over her George Soros anti-Semitic tweet, and conspiracy theories, but those will probably happen soon.

Hopefully Roseanne Barr fades out of the public eye.  Permanently.  To where when she passes away people go "oh yeah, forgot she existed" type thing that we think when some formerly well known person passes.

I believe she apologized because ABC told her to, before they made the decision to cancel her.  Ever since she has gone back and forth playing martyr and victim.  It's everyone else's fault, ambien, Wanda Sykes, the co stars etc.  Now she's saying she was canceled because she's a trump supporter.  WHAT?  That's one of the reasons they restarted Roseanne.  It's not like she made it a secret.  She's not sorry, and that's what is even worse.

Equating a black person to an ape is so vastly different then commenting that someones eye makeup is too heavy, or their hair style is outdated or wrong for their face, or their cloths are not flattering.  Racism is NEVER acceptable.  Ever.

Crystal, don't take this wrong, but you seem really intent on giving Roseanna a pass, which is, to me, showing you are ok with what she said.  What if someone judged you solely based on the color of your skin. Or your eye color?  Or your religion?  That's all they are judging yo on, nothing else.  And they decide that becuase you are a white female with blue eyes, you must be a pedophile.  Based on that alone. Wouldn't feel good, would it?  This is pretty similar, Roseanna made comments based solely on skin color, and solely on religion (in the Soros tweets).  Racism in full display.

Yes, she has apologized.  But she can't take back what shouldnt' have been tweeted.  It's not like she didn't have time to rethink what she was typing into the twitter app.  She thought it.  She typed it.  She clicked post.  She had plenty of time to not do it.  Plenty of opportunities.  And now, she's trying to blame a drug for it?  No.  Just no.   We have a serious issue right now in this country, where Racism and Anti-Semitism and Anti-Muslim views are not only allowable now, but cheered.  It needs to stop.  Because none of those are acceptable.  They just aren't.  You may be ok with it, but I, and so many others, aren't.  Sadly, some very popular people hold these views, and either encourage it in others, or make it seem acceptable.  And we, as humans?  We need to stop that it's acceptable.  Because it isn't.

This might be an unpopular opinion, and what Roseanne did was wrong and stupid... but how is it different from any other person picking on someone's looks... we've all done it.  Stupid that she did it publically.   I try not to do things like that, but sometimes we catch ourselves doing things we feel bad about or wish we hadn't said.  She says she made a mistake, some forgiving her, some not.  Who knows what her real intent was.  There's a lot of careers getting ruined nowadays... some of these people deserve it.  Especially these actors that wanted women to sleep with them to get ahead... but then there's women who offered to sleep with someone to get ahead.  So is that different?  I am the first to be disgusted by sexual harassment.  I was a victim of it.  And also of being fired due to pregnancy.  I don't know... I'm rambling now.  I guess I'm all for people making mistakes and given another chance... does Roseanne deserve it, I really don't know?  She's opened her mouth too many times, I guess.  People pick on Trump's orange face and hair all the time (I agree about some of that for the record, but does that make it right or different from what Roseanne did)?  I know there's more examples than these two, but they are both big in the news so I guess that's why I used them as examples.  Some actors/comedians make fun of their own looks.  I don't know... I find myself rambling now!

Roseanne update: ABC might put costars in new show

Meet the … Bonners?
There could be a scenario in the works where ABC salvages significant parts of Roseanne without having to say goodbye to some of the best actors on television (here's looking at you, Laurie Metcalf and John Goodman). Though ABC made a swift decision Tuesday to cancel the successful reboot, EW has learned that ABC has not exactly washed its hands of the family comedy.
Here's the challenge, though: Roseanne was created by Roseanne Barr. The characters were conceived by her and Matt Williams. If the sitcom were to continue without the matriarch, the actress would still benefit financially. So a key insider informs EW that discussions will continue today on whether it makes sense to keep the other actors but potentially design a new series around them — ergo, the Bonners, or whatever you want to call Goodman, Metcalf, and the clan of misfits. Nothing has been decided, however, and various options are still being weighed.
It's not as if everyone scattered after Tuesday's cancellation announcement. After ABC ordered a second season of Roseanne in March, EW confirmed that cast options were picked up for another 13 episodes... Carsey-Werner, which produces the sitcom for ABC, is still on the hook for paying those salaries. And since ABC ordered a new season, it bears its own financial brunt from the cancellation. So keeping some kind of show intact wouldn't be the worst decision for ABC.
Several of Roseanne's best writers certainly aren't going anywhere. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, executive producer Dave Caplan noted that he, together with Roseanne EPs Bruce Helford and Bruce Rasmussen, are staying put with ABC. "[They] have a pilot project with Tom Werner for ABC, and we'll continue working together.. I know that Tom really regretted the fact that we had such a wonderful writing staff together — a real rare collection of talent — and I know he'd like to continue using it in some fashion if that were possible."
Even Barr herself lamented on Twitter about how her actions resulted in hundreds of people being out of work. (Read more of her response on Twitter here). Officially, ABC isn't talking about any new chapter for the now-beleaguered series, but Disney-ABC Television Group president Ben Sherwood just sent out a statement to staff that said, in part, "we are so sorry the [cast and crew] were swept up in all of this and give thanks for their remarkable talents, wish them well, and hope to find another way to work together down the road."

So what if ABC ultimately decides to make it all go away? "It's not that much money," observes a competing studio. "When you cancel a show, there are cancellation fees.. And then there are costs of actually shutting down the production."
The real loss comes from the potential ad revenue — Kantar Media ballparked it at $60 million next season in the New York Times — and what a show like Roseanne could have done for ABC's schedule, to say nothing of how Carsey-Werner continues to lose boatloads of cash after the Viacom networks and Hulu yanked the Roseanne reruns. "Think of the ripple effect that show would have had on other shows," observes the studio exec. "Now ABC won't be able to start Tuesday nights with a giant."
ABC declined to comment.
