[BigBrother_Survivor] MasterChef Junior Recap: The Cooks Shake Things Up and One Judge Gets a Dunk

I like it when the chefs can be funny. They usually have a challenge that ends up with one of the chefs to get dunked or pie in the face or something. I think the milk shake challenge was easy ,LOL I could even have done that.
The chicken and waffles seemed easy enough but a few just didn't have a good showing. The pink chicken of Lindsey's I knew would send her home.
They made a big deal of the tie dyed waffle but I didn't see a problem with it,.

The home cooks on Masterchef Junior are taking on "American Classics," and their creations look so yummy, I spend the entire hour thinking about how badly I want what they're making. The Top 22 split into two teams to make a boat-load of milkshakes, and then they must take on a personal fave of mine, chicken and waffles. The kids are great, but the big moment is when our favorite judge gets dunked in the world's largest shake.

The Milkshake Challenge

The cooks are split into three teams of three, based on the color of the straw they drew. The all boy's Red Team is Ben, Sammy, and Quami, and they seemed super relieved to not have any girls around to boss them around. The Yellow Team is Anthony, Olivia and Henry, leaving the Blue Team as Gracie, Evan and Pierce.

The challenge is to make as many "perfect" milkshakes as they can in the 10 minutes allotted, making sure to include ice cream, milk, fruit (but not too chunky), whip cream, and some sort of garnish and straw. They had to use crank blenders and delegate duties to maximize the output while still managing the quality control of the shakes they produce.

Of the three teams, one team will win and head to the balcony to watch the next round, while the losing teams will move on to compete for elimination.

The Winner:

The Yellow Team, with a whopping nine "perfect" milkshakes. They get to kick back and enjoy shakes while they watch the rest of the cooks get down and dirty in the next phase of the competition.

To celebrate a job well done, the judges have to draw straws to see who will end up in the gigantic shake sitting in front of them, and of course, Joe has to take a dunk. The kids love it, chanting his name and giggling uncontrollably. They watch as more whip cream is dumped on his head, and then they get to hurdle frozen cherries at him. After all, every shake has to have a cherry on top.

The Chicken and Waffles Challenge

The cooks have to take on the Southern classic (and a personal favorite of mine) chicken and waffles. The judges encourage them to put their own spin on it, incorporating their heritage and background but still keeping it faithful to the Southern staple. This means they have to think about the temperature of the chicken, but more importantly, the texture of the crunch and crust. Here's what they came up with:

Grayson: He offered the judges a tied-dyed waffle, but almost used powdered sugar instead of flour for his chicken, and he never really recovered from the mistake.

Remy: As a challenge to Joe's skepticism about an Italian-inspired dish, she offered up a Parmesan chicken with a tomato waffle. It sounds super weird, but apparently it is super yummy.

Ariana: Hailing from Bella Russe, Ariana wanted to incorporate her own family recipes, and it was a big hit. He made a buttermilk fried chicken with a herb waffle and a mushroom cream sauce. Yes, please.

Cade: Cade comes from the South, originally, so he put a nice Cajun spin on his chicken, pairing it with a corn meal waffle, and topping it with a bacon-corn salsa. It's a dish that should be far beyond his years and experience, but it is a glowing success.

Ben: He chose to use Corn Flakes to give his crust depth and originally wanted to work in some white chocolate in the waffle, but thought better of if after what happened with the fruit tart in the last episode.

Camson: In his rush to get finished, Camson forgot to spray his waffle griddle and is left with a huge mess with waffle stuck everywhere. He winds up with a jalapeno and gruyere waffle that sounds (and apparently tastes) really intriguing.

MasterChef Junior Winners: Where are they Now?>>>

Quani: He made the unfortunate decision to make his own syrup to pair with the spicy chicken and nut waffle, but it didn't hold up under the judges tastes. It turned out dry and too sweet.

Avery: This young lady is from Texas, and knows her way around a chicken and waffle dish. She served the judges a jalapeno waffle with a Texas gunpowder sauce and gave them a little peek into the South's signature flavor profile of sweet and hot.

Mikey: By far the most beautiful presentation of the night, Mikey whipped up a herb and cheddar waffle and used potato chips for the crust of his chicken. It is a bold choice, but one the judges appreciated.

Lindsay: The judges couldn't even eat her chicken because it was so woefully undercooked, so Gordon had to nibble around the pink pieces. Her lack of seasoning was a death blow for the dish and it should have been called "salmonella and blah" instead of "chicken and waffles."

Winners and Losers

The winner: Cade wins the day with his Cajun twist, giving him the white apron and making him one of two team captains for the next challenge.

The Runner Up: Ariana comes in a close second, making her the other team captain.

The Bottom Four: Ben, Lindsay, Quani and Grayson

Do you think that the challenges and dishes are kid-friendly enough? Should the judges give the kids challenges for kids they actually eat or should the challenges be more sophisticated? Tell us your thoughts below!
