President Donald Trump on Wednesday brought a conspiracy theory surrounding one of his frequent critics and media rivals, former congressman and current TV host Joe Scarborough, back into the national spotlight on Wednedsay.
"Will [NBC] terminate low ratings Joe Scarborough based on the 'unsolved mystery' that took place in Florida years ago? Investigate!" the president tweeted on Wednesday after the news that Matt Lauer had been terminated over allegations of sexual misconduct in the workplace emerged.
Trump's tweet appeared to suggest that Scarborough may have been involved in the 2001 death of a 28-year-old female staffer named Lori Klausutis, whose body was found in his congressional district office.
Despite Trump's inferred accusations, authorities determined at the time there was no foul play involved.
The medical examiner assigned to the case determined that Klausutis had fainted as a result of an abnormal heart rhythm, which caused her to fall and hit her head on a desk. Moreover, Klausutis had apparently complained to a colleague earlier in the day that she had not been feeling well.
Moreover, even if foul play had been involved, Scarborough was nowhere near his office at the time of the woman's death, according to FOX News.
While her death was ruled an accident, some have continued to remain suspicious about the incident.
Trump brought it to the forefront with his Wednesday tweet.
The "Morning Joe" co-host was quick to respond to the president's message.
"Looks like I picked a good day to stop responding to Trump's bizarre tweets. He is not well," Scarborough wrote in his tweet.
