Dancing with the Stars brought in its first guest judge of season 25 when singer Shania Twain arrived for A Night at the Movies. Sadly, the results were less than stellar.


Shania rambled in her comments and often seemed to struggle to find anything worthwhile to say to the contestants. But worst of all, her scores for several of the pairs were highly suspect. Is she the show's worst guest judge ever?

By the end of the night Shania seemed to find some more appropriate scores, but the first few dancers led to some head-scratching decisions. For three of the couples, Shania's score for their routine was different from all of the other judges, sometimes by a large margin.


The singer gave Drew Scott and Emma Slater a 9 for their sloppy action-themed Paso Doble, a dance that received 7s from the other three judges. Perhaps their mutual Canadian heritage factored into it (is there such a thing as a Canuck bias?). Then Shania underscored Victoria Arlen and Val Chmerkovskiy, giving them a 7 while the other three judges gave them 8s. Maybe she was offended that they didn't take hockey seriously enough for their sports film Paso Doble, or she was scarred by the sight of Val in a speedo.

Shania's third big misstep in terms of scoring was rewarding Terrell Owens and Cheryl Burke their first 10 of the season, a score that only Jordan, Lindsey and Frankie have received. T.O. was definitely good, but calling it perfection was a questionable choice.



In that respect, Twain was reminiscent of another terrible guest judge, Kevin Hart from season 19. He was also overly generous and bestowed a 10 to Tommy Chong. In that season it was the only 10 Tommy received all season. In fact, he only received two 9s in his entire run, despite reaching the Top 5.

So is Shania Twain the worst guest judge ever? She definitely didn't seem to know what she was talking about and wasn't even an expert on the theme as she has no real connection to movies. And her scores were quite off (she agreed with head judge Len Goodman for less than half of the dances). Bringing her in as a guest judge was definitely a mistake.
