Oh my, what a relief. So glad for her (and your wife, as her friend). The way you were talking, I thought she didn't make it. It's hard to hear of these things when you know someone who knows someone. It's scary. I think if I got it, I just feel I'd get really sick like that, so that's why I'm trying not to go anywhere.
I became a FIRST TIME grandma, my oldest son welcomed his daughter right when this started, early that first week before we knew things were closing down. So I was lucky to see her and hold her at the hospital that first day, but since then they've been keeping her quarantined. My son is almost 25, and they are young, so very protective of their first child. I have to see her only by video chat, photos, or thru a window. It's so hard. She's now 6 weeks old today. It kills me not to hold her, but they are not letting anyone in to be near her.

She literally almost died twice . But she was released from the hospital yesterday so she made it . She was on a ventilator more than two weeks . She was lucky to make it .

Hi Jeff,
I thought your wife's friend was getting better. The way you're talking in past tense? Did she not make it?

She is considered a healthy person . She was 62 years old but I do not consider that
Really old . She just got a bad case unfortunately. Plus they would not test her or put her in hospital cause she was not 65 so they waited till she was really really sick to test her and put her in hospital. By then she was weaker .

Hi Jeff,
Just read all this about your wife's friend. That's amazing news. Just curious, was her friend considered a person "at risk" or with lower immunities, or seemingly healthy person? I am so worried about catching this thing. I stay home as much as I can; only go out to walk or once every couple weeks to the grocery store (masked as best I can), sanitizer in hand! I never would have imagined that I'd be wiping down every side, top, bottom and crevice of my groceries with Lysol, like I have been once I come back home!

It is Karen !
The odds of making it after 14 days on ventilator are not good . She beat the odds!

That is wonderful news. I heard on the news that only 25% survive once they go on the ventilator. That is a truly scary statistic!

The latest on my wife Jill's friend (Kathy ) is they have successfully gotten her off the ventilator and she is breathing on her own .
She was on a ventilator for 14 days . Usually if you are on a ventilator that long you do not make it .
So she is weak but she is breathing on her own and doctors feel good about her chances now ! 👍 she is a fighter and very much wanted to live . Her husband is thrilled,
Yay!!! Yippee! She is off the ventilator!
