Big Brother renewed for season 22 at CBS! Celebrity version still TBD

Big Brother September 5, 2019

Big Brother 21 For all the Big Brother fans like us out there we can all take a collective sigh of relief — the CBS series is not going to be going anywhere in the near future.

Today, CBS went ahead and announced that they are bringing back their summer staple (and cash cow) for a landmark 22nd season on the air. Julie Chen Moonves will also return as the show's host.

While the ratings for season 21 have been down at times, remember this — ratings for ALL live television is pretty much in the graveyard, and a lot of the eviction show numbers as of late have been rather wonky because of football. Even tonight's Double Eviction show should face some trouble — it may not get preempted, but airing against the first game of the NFL season (especially one between the Packers and Bears) is probably going to maul its numbers in the midwest.

So what are we hoping to see with season 22? We don't think that it needs to be anything altogether dramatic — even if we didn't love some of what we had with the cast for season 21. (Just make sure people don't know each other ahead of time … okay?) We're hoping that the new season will feature all newbies once more and run for 99 days, just with some different twists thrown in there and a stronger overall cast — though that's sometimes hard to predict before they get in there.

As for the future of the celebrity-themed spin-off, there is no firm decision on Celebrity Big Brother yet. We continue to hope that the series could be back for another run this winter; if not that, why not go ahead and do a version using just CBS reality stars? They could probably make it for less money, and we have a feeling that there are a ton of people who would still watch. You may even get a stronger dose of overall gameplay. We hope to have something firm here over the next couple of months.
