Yeah those rules are crazy because if someone is obviously over 40 years old ,

Why are you bothering . But yeah managers like to do the no exception rule !

I had to prove my age to get the correct flu shot !

True. But I watched a waitress get fired because she didn't ask for ID. The manager was clear that everyone had to show ID, even if it was clear they were well over 21. So that may have been the case here, where it's policy.
