Chef Aaron shows the junior home cooks how to break down a duck, you have to be careful because you can seriously cut yourself. Aaron starts with the legs, he removes the breast and the wing at the same time. When all the pieces are cut, Aaron cleans them up a bit, like a true Master Chef. Each of the home cooks will have to break down their ducks and make one Master Chef worthy duck dish in one hour. The winner will get a Mystery Box advantage.
The three best dishes that the judges want to investigate further are:
Jaala made Duck Breast with an orange-soy broth, mushrooms, bok choy, and jasmine rice. Aaron thinks she completely knocked it out of the park.
Rashad made Five Spice Duck with carrot, parsnip, rice paper, and lime rice. Christina's palate is pinballing and says that he did a good job.
Evie made Pan_Seared Duck with white asparagus, baby potatoes, and cherry-port sauce. Gordon says it is a great job and her dad really showed her hot to cook well.
The best duck dish of the night belongs to Evie, she has gained a huge advantage.
Gordon tells the home cooks it is time for a break, the judges sit outside with the children and enjoy cupcakes on the patio.
Time for the junior home cooks to head back inside. When they get back in the kitchen, Christina is wearing a huge ballgown made of cupcakes. Cupcakes are the next challenge. Evie finds out what her advantage is for winning the last challenge, everyone will be working in pairs, she gets to pick the pairs. Evie picks Sadie to pair up with her. Briel and Ben, Che and Kyle, Rashad with Reid, Malia with Jaala, Erin and Kate, Matthew and Ivy. The teams have sixty minutes to make a dozen cupcakes. The winning pair will get their cupcake recipe published in the brand new Master Chef Junior cookbook.
Sadie and Evie are the first teams up, They made Fruity Cereal cupcakes with white chocolate buttercream and Rice Krispies treats. Christina says the flavor of the cupcake is delicious, it is airy. A little bit of lime zest would have helped, but she is super inspired by this recipe.
Brielle and Ben are next. They made Vanilla Cupcakes with lemon curd and torched meringue. Gordon says they nailed it, the cupcake is moist, the lemon curd is delicious, a very strong effort.
Malia and Jaala made Orange Cupcakes with vanilla bean-cinnamon frosting. Christina says visually they get A+, they taste as gorgeous as they look; she says it may be the most perfect box of cupcakes that she has ever seen.
Matthew and Ivy made Vanilla Cupcakes with raspberry and lemon icing. Aaron says it is a dynamite tasting cupcake, good job.
Rashad and Reid made Red Velvet cupcakes with cinnamon cream cheese frosting. Gordon says the sponge is delicious, the frosting is great, good job.
Kyle and Che made Apple Pie cupcakes with spice and maple-cinnamon buttercream. Aaron says they are brilliant and they did a fantastic job.
Kate and Aaron made Banana Cinnamon cupcakes with espresso frosting. Christina says the piping looks like poop emoji. The cupcake is baked perfectly, all in all, excellent job.
The judges are absolutely blown away by how well the junior home cooks did. The teams that win are Jaala and Malia with their orange cupcakes.
