The Voice Season 15 Recap – Blind Auditions 6 Live Blog and Videos
by mj santilli
The Voice season 15 continues tonight with coaches Adam Levine, Kelly Clarkson, Jennifer Hudson and Blake Shelton. Carson Daly returns as host. We're live blogging all the performances here. Watch the coaches build their teams.
Caeland Garner – 31 – Coleridge NC – Dancing in the Moonlight by King Harvest – Caeland lives on a farm where they raise goats and chickens and such.. He played music with his family. They'd play for hours. His main instrument is the Dubro. Voice alum Red Marlow is a pal. He convinced Caeland to move to Nashville. His parents have been very supportive. Well. This is pleasant enough. The vocal is interesting, but too mellow, maybe, to get attention. Nevertheless, Jennifer and Blake turn. Blake calls his voice "unique" and says he's "mesmerized by his sound." Jennifer turned for the appreciation of a beautiful instrument. Jennifer realizes she has no chance when Caeland drops Red's name. He's actually backstage! He and Blake have a little reunion. Aw. Caeland Chooses Blake
Madison Cain – 24 – Sonoma CA – You Oughta Know by Alanis Morissette – Madison is hoping that Kelly turns her chair. "Teach me your ways, Kelly Clarkson!" Madison says. Her father is Jonathan Cain, the keyboard player for Journey. He wrote a bunch of their hits including Don't Stop Believing, Open Arms and more. She spent her summers on tour watching Journey perform. Carson congratulates dad on being admitted to the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame last year with the band. Dad tells Madison to look at The Voice audition as "just another gig." This is a hard song to sing. She needs to hit the chorus hard to impress. She does, with some pitchy spots. And unfortunately…NO Turns. Kelly wished she had been more "reckless" and angry. Kelly demonstrates. Madison says the nerves got the best of her. – No Turns
And…can't let a gal from rock royalty go! Madison is the last singer chosen by Kelsea Ballerini for The Voice Comeback Stage.
Lela – 15 – Miami FL – Havana by Camila Cabello – Her family is Colombia and she's proud of that. She loved Shakira and more. But she's come to love American music too. She performs part of the song in Spanish. She's good. Nice range and tone and really good pitch. Her perky personality is a plus. Kelly enthusiastically hits her button. Jennifer turns near the end. Jennifer wonders if she dances. She does! Kelly loved the Spanish parts and will encourage her to keep doing that. Lela Chooses Jennifer
Cody Ray Raymond – 26 – Seattle WA – Born Under a Bad Sign by Albert King -He's a martial artist, as well as a musician. He had to get through hard things in his childhood. He joined the Air Force and was stationed on the North Pole. He spent a lot of time playing guitar. That's when he decided to pursue music for real. He busked on the streets at first, followed by open mics. He calls the coaches "icons of hope." He's looking for a mentor. Accompanying himself on electric guitar, Cody has a growly, bluesy vocal. He's decent.. It takes a bit, but Kelly turns. She likes what she sees. Heh. Then, Jennifer turns. Kelly calls his runs, "crazy." Jennifer gushes, "You are SO soulful." Kelly adds, "It sounds effortless." She wants to challenge him." Jennifer calls him a melodic storyteller. His influences includes Seattle bands from the 90s. But he also loved Boyz II Men. Cody Chooses Kelly Adam regrets not turning.
Jake Wells – 23 – Kansas City MO – When the Stars Go Blue by Ryan Adams – His family is in the music business. They have been playing gospel music together. They tour churches. OH I LOVE THIS SONG. And so does Kelly. Good taste Kelly. He's interesting. Love the tone of his Voice. He sings with emotion and vulnerability. Somebody turn, dagnabbit. He's not a perfect singer, but there is something there for sure. YES. Adam hits his button at the VERY LAST SECOND.. Only Adam Turned Blake regrets not turning.
Abby Cates – 17 – Cincinnati – Scars to Your Beautiful by Alessia Cara – Carson calls her the "singing princess." She dresses up in ball gowns and performs at kids birthday parties. Last summer she was thrown from a horse and broke 3 of her vertebrae. It was "super scary" but she escaped paralysis. Music was her getaway as she recovered. Her "no 1 coach" is Kelly. Kelly turns first. For someone who has only performed in front of little kids and in her room, she's impressive. Her range is crazy big. She's hitting those high notes. If the teams weren't filling up, she would have gotten more turns. "Your tone was incredible at the beginning." Kelly compares her to Tori Kelly. – Only Kelly Turns
Funsho – 28 – Lagos Nigeria – Finesse by Bruno Mars – He was very young when he was in Nigeria. But he remembers a rich culture. They didn't have much money. He was oblivious to the hardships. At 7, his family moved to the US. He grew up speaking English and assimilated into the culture. He's auditioned for "talent shows." Will have to look that up. He was working as a help desk technician when he quit his job and moved to Los Angeles. An animated and soulful performer, first Adam turns and then Jennifer. Kelly is next! He's got a lovely elastic voice and great pitch and musicality. Adam drops that his wife is also from Africa. Adam thinks he "has it all." Kelly was impressed that he made the song his own. Jennifer says "you were riding every note!" Adam adds, "You're one of the best vocalists we've ever had." Funsho Chooses Adam He chose Adam because he's a HUGE fan.
