I've always said age is simply a number. It's not an indication of health, or how long you will live, except you are guaranteed to live until yesterday. Today and beyond? Anything can happen - at any age.
Look at me. I was on SSDI at 41. I got Medicare at 42. I got Medicare before either of my parents. Age wasn't on my side, that's for sure, still isn't. I may "only" be 47, but if I live to 60? I'll be surprised. Well, not so much now as say a few months ago, the move to Wisconsin really did do wonders, positive wonders, for me. But my body broke when I was 13, it started an accelerated breaking down process then, that has only sped up as the years go by.
So don't look at your age as something bad.
And here - for those 65 and over? Ok, Medicare. yes. But. You also qualify for discounts on so many things due to being a senior citizen. You also, if you can't drive, or just don't want to, qualify for paratransit - something I qualify for but I have to get a doctors form filled out - you get it based on age alone. You also get priority on lists such as for housing assistance. I was told when I was applying for Section 8 that only elderly were ahead of me - disabled or not. So you get quite a bit of ...perks :) And, hopefully, people treat you better, or kinder at least. I've always made my son help any elderly person he saw, now he just does it automatically. I hope others do the same, and help you guys out when you may need a little extra assistance with, say, putting groceries in the car, or holding a door open, etc.
