The Voice Recap: The Playoffs Continue and Miley Announces Her Comeback Artist

Sundi Rose
Contributing Writer, BuddyTV The playoffs continue on this special third episode of The Voice in one week. Coach Miley Cyrus announces her comeback artists and she is the last of the four coaches to cut her team down. Three of her six remaining performers will advance to the live shows, and Miley faces some serious anxiety. The playoff decisions are weighing heavily on the coaches, but they've definitely gotten their teams in the best shape possible.

Team Miley

Brooke Simpson ("It's a Man's Man's World)

Miley stole Brooke from Adam in the battles, and it was a major loss to his team. This Native American songstress takes on the James Brown anthem, and not only owns the song, but commands the stage as well. She's perfected the dramatic hair flip, and the judges are equally impressed with her creative vocals and powerful stage presence.

Miley's Comeback Artist

Karli Webster ("Coat of Many Colors")

Karli couldn't have picked a better or more personal song to perform for the playoffs. Dolly Parton originally sang this song as a tribute to her humble beginnings, but she also happens to be Miley's godmother. Whether or not this creates any bias in Karli's favor remains to be seen, but she sounded amazing, and surely makes Dolly proud. She certainly sounds a lot like Dolly, but she also occupies a space that country music lacks right now.
Adam Pearce ("Love Hurts")

Adam is also a steal for Team Miley, and he is the only rock and roll guy on the team. His voice is so unusual and unique, yet he is one of the most genuine performers of the entire competition. He's the kind of performer that makes you stop and look, and the coaches agree. Adam Levine admires his song choice because its a hard one, and as Jennifer comments, he commands every note.

Ashland Craft ("When I Think About Cheatin")

You would never know Ashland has stage fright when you hear her sing, but she's got a real case of the nerves. Miley gives her some good advice, that she got from her therapist and it seems to settle her nerves. She takes on a Gretchen Wilson song and she winds up doing an amazing job. Blake covets her big time and wishes she was on his team.

Moriah Formica ("World Without You")

Moriah is finally performing a Beth Hart song, which is what Miley saw for her all along. It's hard to believe that this big voice and guitar goddess is only a junior in high school, but she's got a lot of talent for a girl so young. Miley is endeared to her, and you can tell the coach is rooting for her to do well.

Janice Freeman ("Fall For You")

This is a perfect song for Janice because she can imbue it with all the emotion and pain she's had to suffer. From lupus to cancer to death, this lady is one tough cookie. Jennifer proclaims herself an actual fan of hers and Miley declares Janice has never hit a bad note, ever. Her playoff performance is packed with a slow-burning passion that the coaches seem like they connect to, especially Jennifer. She definitely takes her time, but it seems like it was the right call for this song.
Results: Miley keeps Brooke Simpson, Janice Freeman, and Ashland Craft

Do you think Miley should have kept at least one male voice on her team? Leave your thoughts in the comments below.
