Blake Shelton Named People's Sexiest Man Alive After Gossip Cop Broke News

Blake Shelton was officially announced as People magazine's "Sexiest Man Alive" on Tuesday, two days after Gossip Cop exclusively broke the news. The publication's annual issue hits newsstands on Wednesday.

As noted, Gossip Cop exclusively reported on Sunday that Shelton is People's "Sexiest Man Alive" for 2017. The publication has been naming sexiest men since 1985, and over the last few years, it's become tradition for Gossip Cop to unveil the hunky star several days before the magazine announces the honoree. In past years, we've exclusively revealed that Dwayne Johnson, Channing Tatum and Shelton's "Voice" colleague Adam Levine had landed the cover. For full disclosure, we heard about a month ago that it was Shelton, but didn't want to publish our scoop until it was a little closer to when the magazine arrives on newsstands.

In his new cover story, Shelton is asked for his reaction to winning the title. "That y'all must be running out of people. Like, Wow, we're down to somebody who is somewhat symmetrical," he says self-deprecatingly. But girlfriend Gwen Stefani championed the prize. "She goes, 'Listen to me, you're going to regret this for the rest of your life if you don't take this gift and just live in the moment,'" he says. As for Levine, Shelton admits, "I can't wait to shove this up Adam's ass. As proud as I am and honored that you guys asked me, that's really the only thing I care about."

In fact, the formal announcement actually came at the start of Tuesday night's edition of "The Voice," with Shelton leading a blindfolded Levine to the side of a brick building, where a billboard-size version of his cover was on display. "Look how sexy! Read that," Shelton urged his frenemy. "That says 'Sexiest Man Alive,' which means I am the sexiest man that's living right now." Levine quipped, "Man, I'm proud of you, buddy, because I'm only friends with other SMAs."

Shelton further says of his new title in the People interview, "It's going to be used in every conversation, whether it's at 'The Voice,' or at the feed in Tishomingo, Oklahoma, or in a conversation with a doctor," he says. "When [people] would say to Adam, 'Mr. Sexy,' you'd always see him go, 'Well, awwww…' If you say that to me, it's going to be, 'You're damn right, I'm Mr. Sexy! I've been ugly my whole life, if I can be sexy for a year, I'm taking it. I'm taking it."

The country singer is enjoying a fantastic year, particularly with the release of his brand-new album Texoma Shore, which dropped earlier this month. Just a day ago, he tweeted, "Wow…. 'Texoma Shore' has debuted as the #1 country album!!! I can't say THANK YOU enough to everyone who bought it!!! I love y'all!" In just the past few weeks, Shelton has been promoting the hit record all over, including on the "Today" show, "Live with Kelly and Ryan," "Late Night With Seth Meyers" and "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon." Of course, he's also currently appearing on Season 13 of "The Voice," and remains the singing competition's winningest coach. What's more, Shelton is also featured on girlfriend Gwen Stefani's holiday song, "You Make It Feel Like Christmas," and will appear on her upcoming NBC holiday special.

Shelton now follows in the footsteps of recent "Sexiest Man Alive" recipients Dwayne Johnson (2016), David Beckham (2015), Chris Hemsworth (2014), Adam Levine (2013), Channing Tatum (2012), Bradley Cooper (2011) and Ryan Reynolds (2010). Mel Gibson was the first star to get the title back in 1985, and since then, Brad Pitt, George Clooney, Johnny Depp and Richard Gere have all received the honor twice.
