 Not sure but I wonder if McGee will have serious problems and may consider leaving the team?  We will lose Abbie end of this season will McGee be next to go?

 'NCIS' Recap: How are Gibbs and McGee Adjusting After Paraguay?

Last time on NCIS, McGee and Gibbs finally escaped a hellish two months of actual torture in Paraguay. They may be home, but the repercussions of their ordeal are far from over. 

In this episode, titled "Twofer," the team will investigate the killing of a Navy lieutenant, as Gibbs and McGee tackle psychiatric evaluations to resume their duties. I am sure that Gibbs is delighted at the prospect!

Bishop is Boss

We kick off with some workers who have the charming task of relocating some coffins in a cemetery to make room for a highway. When one coffin, which is dangling in the air from a crane, opens, it reveals a gruesome surprise: the bodies of an elderly woman and a man. 

Gibbs and McGee pass their physicals with flying colors, but now they need to conquer their mandatory psych evaluation. Welcome back, Dr. Grace Confalone (Laura San Giacomo). Grace is surprised when Gibbs, instead of avoiding this dreaded duty, asks to be fit in that afternoon. Really? Color me shocked!  Bishop calls McGee to see if he and Gibbs can assist with an unusual case. Grace agrees to let them work on the case, if they keep their afternoon appointments with her. Grace adds that Gibbs cannot be in charge until they have their formal chat, and Gibbs shocks her again with a big hug.

At the cemetery, Gibbs and McGee join Bishop and the rest of the team. Gibbs even cracks a joke about being in a cemetery, which blows Torres' mind. Gibbs asks Bishop where she wants him, and she tries to hand the lead back to Gibbs. Torres remarks that, much to his surprise, Bishop did well overseeing the team. Of course, he also makes a comment about how he had more experience than her in the field as an undercover agent. What did Torres learn from this little exchange? That if you question Bishop, she will send you to talk to the groundskeepers. 

The stowaway body is that of Navy lieutenant Richard Coyne, who was reported as an "unauthorized absence" a year and a half ago. The owner of the casket, Edna Stone, died two years ago, which is even more bizarre. Obviously, someone wanted to ensure that Coyne was never found. The groundskeepers explain that the caskets come already sealed from the funeral home and then are buried. Torres is having trouble with "weird vibes" at the cemetery and adds that superstition runs rampant in his family. 

More Freaky Vibes

Back at headquarters, Gibbs and McGee exchange knowing glances, illustrating how deep their relationship became in Paraguay. Vance pops in to remind everyone that from now on, everything is to go "by the book." Since when has that ever happened? Bishop runs the update, and it seems a bit awkward. Coyne was married and had no children. He was forced out of SEAL training because of a shoulder injury. Coyne disappeared one week before he was scheduled to testify as a witness in drug dealer Leo Vairo's trial. Six months earlier, Coyne was at a health club where a masked intruder shot the club's owner, Pete Wilkins. The robber escaped, but in the scuffle, Coyne saw the man's face and picked out Vairo. This was Vairo's third strike, so he was looking at a hefty sentence.

Bishop sends Gibbs and Torres to talk to the funeral director who handled Edna Stone's burial, and Torres is not happy. When Bishop offers to go for him since he is "spooked," a macho Torres decides to go, bad vibes be damned. Jensen, the funeral director, can't believe that this has happened. Edna's funeral wasn't remarkable; she had no viewing and a small group of mourners. She did not have a graveside service because she died during December, and all the deceased from the winter were stored until they could be buried in the spring. Edna was buried on May 11, but Coyne went missing on May 8. Jensen personally locks each one, so he is confused as to how this happened. 

Bishop and McGee notify Coyne's wife. Mrs. Coyne was always convinced that her husband was dead and not that he had run away. She also believes that Vairo must be responsible. She didn't want him to testify, and Coyne had suffered from various ailments, from back pain to stomach issues, as the trial approached. That sounds odd. 

When Gibbs shows up for his appointment with Grace, he learns that she had double-booked the appointment time because she expected Gibbs to cancel. Gibbs confides that he is grateful and happy to be alive. Although he had stared death in the face many times before, this time was different -- he thought that it was the end. Grace marvels at the change in Gibbs and his new appreciation of life.

A Toxic Surprise

At the gym, Bishop and Torres go to Wilkins' office and find him with his girlfriend -- Mrs. Coyne. Awkward! Coyne's wife insists that there was no love triangle and that the first time she met Wilkins was when she and her husband went to check on him at the hospital. Wilkins and Coyne worked out together as they overcame their physical injuries. Mrs. Coyne and Wilkins started spending time together after her husband went missing, and their relationship blossomed. Wilkins feels guilty about not handing the contents of the safe over to Vairo, and then his friend would not have been involved. 

McGee skips his appointment with Grace and goes to see Abby instead. She is, of course, a connoisseur of all things casket-related, finds evidence that someone pried the casket open. She believes that someone that worked at the cemetery would use a casket key. I am learning a lot about caskets, more than I ever wanted to, in this episode of NCIS.

The state police locate Vairo working at a used car lot. Vairo insists that he is innocent and that, conveniently enough, he has been clean and sober for 18 months. When Bishop tells Vairo that Coyne is dead, he asks for a lawyer. Vance catches up with McGee and asks him about missing his appointment with Grace. He apologizes and says that he and Delilah are trying to normalize everything at home. He even asks if he can go home to have dinner with Delilah. Vance agrees, but McGee has until the end of the following day to complete his psych evaluation. 

In autopsy, Palmer, Ducky and Gibbs commiserate over the especially foul smell of Coyne's corpse. There must be something unusual about this set of remains. As Palmer continues the autopsy, the smell gets worse, and Palmer becomes disoriented. Ducky tells him to step away from the body and sounds an alarm just as Palmer collapses. When he comes around, he tells Ducky that he was taking a sample from the liver when he collapsed. Ducky thinks that toxins built up in the liver, and that is what caused Palmer's collapse. 

Meanwhile, Gibbs is back in his basement, working on a project, when he feels some pain or stiffness in his hand. He hears the doorbell, and it is McGee. This wouldn't be unusual, except it is the middle of the night and neither man can sleep. Worse yet, Gibbs is locking the door to his house. Gibbs tells McGee that the whole time that they endured starvation, beatings and torture, McGee never seemed as scared as he is now. McGee can't resume his life like Gibbs has, and he feels even worse because Gibbs was tortured more than he was. Gibbs knows that McGee is afraid that he will fail his evaluation, which leads to a tense exchange between the men. 

Facing the Fear

Abby determines that while Coyne had a trauma wound to the head, it was a mixture of drugs in his system that caused his death. Someone mixed DMSO and fentanyl with Ibuprofen, which Coyne took for his shoulder injury. Torres used one of the drugs, DMSO, as a topical on his back when he was in Colombia, but it doesn't come in tablet form. The drugs crystallized when Palmer cut into the liver. 

Vairo's attorney arrives, and Bishop and Torres tell Vairo that they know that Wilkens was once busted for having cocaine, which was what Vairo used to sell. Vairo takes the bait and admits to shooting Wilkins but claims that the gym owner had a lot more money in the safe than he previously stated. Vairo is emphatic that he didn't kill Coyne. He states that Wilkins was selling a wonder pain killer from South America. Wilkins gave it to Coyne because he was in so much pain. Coyne fell in the gym and hit his head on a weight, and Wilkins tapped his old buddy from high school, who worked at the cemetery, to hide the body.

McGee finally goes to see Grace and admits that he is plagued by anxiety since his return. When his session ends, he comes out to see Gibbs waiting in the waiting room for his appointment with Grace. And after he ditches several calls from the University of Edinburgh, Ducky receives a notice that he is being given the honor and title of Doctor of Humane Letters.

I liked this episode of NCIS, the way that Gibbs and McGee faced the challenges of adjusting to life after Paraguay.
