[Reality-TV-Fanatics] Survivor Recap 04/08/20: Season 40 Episode 9 “War Is Not Pretty”

Was anyone else glad to see Adam leave? I didnt like him for several weeks .

Survivor Recap 04/08/20: Season 40 Episode 9 "War Is Not Pretty"

BY DOROTHY GALE ON APRIL 8, 2020 |

Nick doesn't like the gameplay, he thinks It is getting ruthless and cutthroat. He feels like it is time to take all these people out, he is ready for some revenge. At tribal council, Adam's heart was beating so fast, he was incredibly nervous, but he is still here. Michelle is feeling incredibly low. Adam's mind is whirling, he noticed a fleur de Lys at tribal council and he remembers when Denise found her idol, it was a fleur de Lys, so maybe the one at the tribal council is an idol, right in front of them.

Day 22 on the Edge of Extinction. Yul finds a box that reads open when everyone is present. He opens it up and there is a scroll for each person, on it, it says, "as a winner and a fan you step back and assess, sometimes when history repeats it can lead to success." Everyone is thinking maybe there is something on top of the mountain again, they all get ready and hike up.

Natalie and Rob head in the same direction, Danni and Parvati rethink this whole thing and come to think that this is something from a past season when Aubrey looked up the steps and found where the clue was. Danni and Parvati head back down and the clue is exactly where they thought it would be. This advantage is a 50/50 coin. It allows a player to flip this coin one time at any tribal council. If it lands on safe they have immunity. If it lands on not safe, they are vulnerable. The advantage has no value and they can sell it to a player in the game for any price that they want to.

The rest of the players come down the mountain, Parvati shares with them what the advantage is and she tells them she wants to sell it for four fire tokens, then she will buy peanut butter for the group.

Time for the reward challenge, they will be divided into two teams of five. On Jeff's go, they will swim out and retrieve a net that is full of wooden fish. They will untie those fish and put them on a pole, get the pole to the finish, and use the fish to solve a puzzle. The reward is Chinese takeout. A random draw is done to choose the teams, there are eleven people, Denise was not picked so she doesn't get to participate.

Sarah, Kim, Ben, Michele, and Sophie wins the reward. Sarah gives up her reward so Nick could enjoy a meal for his birthday. Adam thinks Sarah did it for gameplay, she did it just to be nice. Tony thinks it was a wrong move, she should not have been emotional. Denise also thinks it is a total game. Jeremy remembers giving away rewards before, and he got voted out.

Michele now has four fire tokens, and when she gets back to camp she finds something in her bag, the 50/50 coin advantage. The advantage costs her four fire tokens. Michele decides to trade her four fire tokens for the advantage.

Time for the Immunity Challenge, once again individual immunity is back up for grabs. For today's challenge, they are going to balance on a triangular platform with their feet perched on very narrow foot spaces. On Jeff's go, they will move up on the platform. The last person standing wins. The wind is picking up. The final two are Kim and Ben. Ben drops, Kim wins immunity and a fire token.

Nick's name is out there tonight and Sophie is responsible. Meanwhile, Sarah's name is starting to go around as well, even by Nick. Meanwhile, Tyson thinks if Adam has the power to get rid of Sarah, then they should get rid of him. In the end, it looks like Adam may have seen his last days on this tribe, All of a sudden, all hell breaks loose on the tribe. Everyone is thinking someone else is talking about them and names are thrown around again, it is anybody's guess at this point.

Time for Tribal Council, the members of the jury come in. Tyson says they all ran around in circles today, pulled people to the side, it was crazy. Jeremy says he has never seen the game like this before. Denise says she aged a few years today. All of a sudden, everyone starts to huddle in twos and whisper to each other. Ben and Adam get into an argument, and Adam calls him sensitive.

While they are arguing, the rest are whispering. After all the whispering, Nick says he feels better. Time to vote. Jeff asks if anyone has an immunity idol and Adam gets up and goes over to the fleur de Lys. He tries to take it, but it is glued down and everyone is smirking at him. Jeff tells him that it is not an idol. First vote Sarah, then Adam, Nick, Adam, Nick, Adam, Adam, Adam, Adam. Time for Adam to leave, he bequeaths his token to Denise.

THE END!

[Reality-TV-Fanatics] Masked Singer recap: Kangaroo loses smackdown, revealed to be reality star

Masked Singer recap: Kangaroo loses smackdown, revealed to be reality star

By Rachel Yang
Updated April 08, 2020 at 04:47 PM EDT

t's The Masked Singer smackdown week, baby! Four competitors went head-to-head this episode, and at the end, Kangaroo was boxed out of the ring.

The theme of tonight was .... TSA  TMS precheck? Each contestant and panelist had to reveal what was in their bags. Ken Jeong, of course, had only Ken Jeong merchandise in his luggage. If his head got any bigger, it would resemble that Ken cutout Jenny McCarthy brought out that one time.

Panelist's Robin ThickeNicole Scherzinger, and McCarthy welcomed Jeong's former Community costar Yvette Nicole Brown into the mix. And of course, Nick Cannon once again served as host and Phantom of the Opera cosplayer.

The first pair to vie for a spot in the "battle of the sixes" were ultra-confident Night Angel and vulnerable crooner Kangaroo.

The Night Angel — whom Joel McHale once dubbed "Angel of Death" — got the crowd grooving with Shania Twain's "Man I Feel Like a Woman." On stage, Night Angel showed us a crown and snow globe clues in her suitcase, while employing a truly awful British accent. We know it's youKandi Burruss, don't try to hide from us!

We then had a meta moment with the panelists acknowledging they know social media calls them out for their bad guesses, and Brown defended them by admitting it's much harder to make predictions without the aid of Google. Still, that's no excuse for Jeong guessing T-Rex was Kourtney Kardashian

Then, the singing creature from Down Under performed Jordin Sparks' "No Air." Kangaroo's onstage luggage clues included a photo of Big Ben and red lipstick, which for some reason made Jeong guess she was Keira Knightley.

Night Angel won against Kangaroo, sending the latter to the smackdown round.

The next duo to go up against each other was Astronaut and Turtle, who honestly confused us because the two — as they even mentioned in the episode — are basically the SAME person. They're both former heartthrobs  (based on their clues), seem to be of similar height, with similar voices, and a penchant for ballads. So who can stand out in this face-off?

Turtle, it turned out. He blew Astronaut out of the water with his rendition of James Bay's "Let It Go." The moon man's version of Shawn Mendes' "If I Can't Have You" (funny enough, Turtle has previously done a Mendes cover) was good, but not out of this world.

Thus, Astronaut joined Kangaroo in the smackdown, and both gave it their all. Kangaroo killed it with Donna Summer's "Hot Stuff," while Astronaut sang NSYNC's "Bye Bye Bye" to prove he didn't want to say bye bye bye to the show.

In the end, Astronaut survived to sing another day and Kangaroo was eliminated.

The mask came off and she was revealed to be Jordyn Woods, just as EW predicted! The model and reality star was once Kylie Jenner's BFF (and Life of Kylie costar), but their friendship ended in February 2019 after Woods found herself in a cheating scandal for kissing Tristan Thompson, the boyfriend of Jenner's sister Khloe Kardashian. This incident was what Kangaroo was referring to with being "in the spotlight for all the wrong reasons" in her first clue package.

Other hints leading to Woods included the reference to losing a loved one and the image of a gramophone. In 2017, Woods lost her father, who was a sound engineer.

"I just love a challenge, I felt like this was an opportunity for people to see a different side of me that not even I knew existed," Woods said about why she went on The Masked Singer.

If you're keeping score, McCarthy is the only panelist this season to guess more than one celebrity correctly. She guessed Woods this episode, as well as Rob Gronkowski as White Tiger and JoJo Siwa as T-Rex in previous weeks.

Check back next week, when Frog, Kitty, Banana, and Rhino face off and seven finalists becomes six.

[Reality-TV-Fanatics] Survivor: Winners at War recap: Podium idol attack!

Survivor: Winners at War recap: Podium idol attack!

By Dalton Ross
April 08, 2020 at 09:00 PM EDT

Hey, everyone. Before we get into this week's Survivor recap, I just want to make sure everyone is doing okay out there. As someone who lives in New Jersey and works in New York City — the two places hit hardest so far by this insidious virus — I can attest to the severity of what we are facing out there. I hope everyone — no matter where you live— is staying safe and staying home to protect not only yourself but to protect others as well. I'm not exactly sure why I just morphed into a #CBSCares PSA, but there you have it.

Okay, as for episode 9 of Survivor: Winners at War, let's get into it. One thing I've meant to weigh in on when it comes to the Edge of Extinction is that whenever the group there receives a message…ß˚∆µ∂"œoF@*#J)^VZQi85hf߬˚∂πeie…

Whoa, what the hell?! Why is Adam Klein barging into my house and grabbing my laptop, forcing me into typing gobbledygook that makes even less sense than what I usually write? YOU KEEP 6 FEET AWAY FROM ME AT ALL TIMES, ADAM KLEIN! The dude is trying to rip the brightly-lit Apple logo right off of my machine, even though it clearly does not rip off! Wait, what's happening? Now he's walking over to my Mr. T action figure collection and attempting to rip the mohawk off of my talking Mr. T doll. I PITY THE POOR FOOL THAT TRIES TO RIP OFF MR. T's MOHAWK! Dude, do you want to get beat down like Rocky Balboa and his dearly-departed trainer, Mick?  Hold on, now Adam is destroying everything in my house while simultaneously tearing into his own chest and ripping out his own beating heart and holding it aloft like he is Mola Ram from the Temple of Doom. Dude, that is NOT an idol either!

Obviously, we all got a good laugh out of Adam trying to dismantle Jeff Probst's voting podium in the hopes that the fleur-de-lis symbol was actually an immunity idol because he noticed the same symbol on the idol Denise found at the start of the game. And we were right to laugh. Because it was hilarious. But here's the thing: As much of a doofus as that made Adam out to be — as he demonstrated not only that fleur-de-lis was not an idol, but also that he did not possess the strength to separate it from the plank of wood it was superglued onto — and as much as he became the butt of the joke as Probst hilariously offered him a glimmer of hope that perhaps it could be the idol ("You're convinced it's not?") before slamming the door shut on his Survivor hopes and dreams, here's the thing… ADAM WAS RIGHT!

I mean, no, technically he was not right. He was wrong. That's what was so funny about it. But the instinct was still spot-on. First off, a bit of history. We saw Adam earlier in the season pause and gaze around at objects in the voting room, apparently looking to see if there might be an idol present. And he wasn't the only one. While it did not make it onto air, at the first Tribal, Boston Rob started full-on examining the shelves in the voting area looking for an idol while Ben looked under objects on the voting table to see if there might be any secret messages. Many players felt there was a chance that an idol might be hidden somewhere at Tribal Council.

Now, let's go back to this last Tribal Council. Clearly, Adam felt vulnerable. He knew he was in trouble at the first post-merge vote but escaped. However, a lot of the chatter at this last Tribal focused on him, and he had already been busted by Ben for voicing his concern that Sarah and the Marine were too close. Adam had to know he was in major danger. And when you are in major danger, you have nothing to lose. I mean, except your dignity in terms of looking like a buffoon to millions of people on national television. So Adam could have sat there and worried about looking foolish on TV, or he could have taken a chance and attempted to tear down the entire Tribal Council set in the hopes of getting 3 more days on the island. Give me the player who is less concerned with looking cool and more concerned with doing everything imaginable to stay in the game. Give me the player willing to risk his pride for another shot at the title. Give me the guy hovering awkwardly around Jeff Probst's crotch level in the hopes of obtaining a special surprise. Give me Adam Klein!

Don't mistake what I am saying for a single second. Please, by all means, make fun of Adam for that ridiculous bit of theater. It was absurd, and you should have all the fun in the world at his expense. Because what's the fun in watching Survivor if we can't laugh at a poor sap going head-to-head against a fleur-de-lis? But, at the same time, recognize and respect the cojones it took to go up there and do that. To do it front of the biggest legends in the history of the game. To do it in front of millions of viewers. And to do it in front of Jeff Probst, and I mean right in front of Jeff Probst.

And can you imagine if it had actually worked? Forget about a Ben Bomb. That would have been an Adam Bomb! Or… wait for it… an Atom Bomb. Get it? Adam Bomb, Atom bomb? Because atom sounds like Adam? Oh, you did get it? And over-explaining it just ruined it? Gotcha. Well, it didn't work — either Adam's ploy or my lame name pun. But respect for trying. It would have been so much easier for Adam to sit there, play it safe, and do absolutely nothing. Instead, he gave it a shot. And the people who are not afraid to fall flat on their faces are the ones I love the most.

The most hilarious thing about the attempted robbery of a fleur-de-lis is the fact that IT WAS NOT EVEN THE MOST HILARIOUS THING AT THAT TRIBAL COUNCIL! No, the most hilarious thing at Tribal was the brilliant silence that followed Adam's desperate plea for intel after scrambling and whispering amongst everyone.

"I'm trying to figure out is it me, is it him, or is it somebody else?" he asked after Nick said he felt safer post-scramble. This question was answered with complete silence. And then more silence. And then awkward looks in the complete opposite direction as far away from Adam as possible. And then more silence. Adam finally pleaded again, "Anyone?" More silence. More awkward looks. The entire thing was glorious. I loved it. And I love it when Survivor lets a moment like that breathe. There's an old adage in writing going all the way back to Chekhov that states: "Show, don't tell." And sometimes, a scene with absolutely no dialogue can tell you the entire story without a single word spoken.

Go back to episode 3 of this season on day 9 of the game. Sele lost the immunity challenge, and when we returned from a commercial break, instead of immediate scrambling, we saw a good 20 seconds of the contestants all just sitting there in silence. The tension was so thick, and you saw everything you needed to see on the faces of the players. It was the most powerful moment o

[Reality-TV-Fanatics] Survivor host Jeff Probst explains why idols are not at Tribal Council

Survivor host Jeff Probst explains why idols are not at Tribal Council

By Dalton Ross
April 09, 2020 at 12:01 AM EDT

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: Soooooooo, Adam tried to destroy your podium. Let's just start there. How far would you have let that lunatic go in terms of trying to rip that fleur-de-lis off when he thought it was an immunity idol hidden at Tribal Council in plain sight?

JEFF PROBST: I love Adam's enthusiasm. He has an admirable quality in his ability to not self-judge. He does what he thinks he needs to do in the moment, whether it's lie, cry, or try to grab what he thinks is an immunity idol from the podium at Tribal! I'm not sure how far I would have let him go. It's like so many Survivor moments, you just go with the flow and see where it leads. But your question speaks to why we have never put an idol at Tribal Council. For the fear of players destroying Tribal Council! So, in that sense, I would not have let him start to tear down Tribal Council.

The players' suspicion started in the first moments of this season, when I toasted them with a bottle of Cheurlin Champagne. The toast was genuine, but they were all suspect that there was more to what was in their glass… a clue to an idol or maybe just arsenic. This has continued every day, and especially in the Tribal voting area. It's never happened like this before, and I don't think it is a coincidence that it took 20 winners for us to reach this level of investigation. To be very clear, we have never hidden an idol or any advantage at Tribal because we don't want players destroying the set. I don't see that changing. If there was ever anything to be found at Tribal, it would be very obvious to the players.

Sarah made what she claims was a selfless human decision in giving up her Chinese takeout reward feast to Nick, since he was blindsided on his birthday the day before. But in Survivor, it doesn't matter what your true intention is, it just matters how it is perceived and received. What did you think — from a strategic perspective — of Sarah's move? If you were playing and had a similar instinct to do something nice like that, would you hold back just because of the potential ripples it may cause?

It's hard to know what any of us would do in the moment. Every player is trying to balance maintaining a calm, thoughtful approach to the game against their in-the-moment instincts. Both approaches can work, and both can backfire. You can overthink things, and you can make regrettable rash decisions. My hunch is that Sarah thoughtfully debated this in her head many times, and then when she won, her in-the-moment instincts took over and she went for it.

I don't think a single player bought it for a single second. And, as you say, that is all that matters. Intention is meaningless. Perception rules. But you can't armchair-quarterback those decisions. Well, actually you can armchair-quarterback, and it's quite fun. In fact, I guess I'm doing my version of it right now. But my point is that those are the kind of risky decisions that winners make. One hundred percent. People who win this game make moves and take chances.

You and I have debated this for years, but I've never wavered. Today more than ever, you cannot win this game without showing the jury you came to play and you took big swings. The other winners may dock Sarah for making what they consider a first-time-player mistake, but generally speaking, big-time players respect other players who make moves.

Some of my favorite moments this season have just been absolute silence. There was a great scene earlier this season after Sele lost a challenge and the camera just lingered on the dejected players as they all sat there without a sound. And then this week we saw Adam asking for intel at Tribal and being met with cold, hard silence. As producers, where so much is happening to the point where you are struggling each and every week to get as much of it in as possible, how do you decide when to sacrifice precious seconds to just allow a mood to build?

This is a great example of what happens when all the members on any team trust all the members on the team. Our producing and editing teams know they have carte blanche to experiment and explore ideas in the editing bays. The idea to forego a player telling what they were feeling and instead let their faces show us what they were feeling was brilliant.. It said everything, and it allows the audience to put their own feelings on top of it while they watch.

I love how much you notice about how we're telling our stories. We could go back to so many great sequences on Survivor and trace their roots to a crazy idea an editor or producer had while cutting a scene. Same with our big-picture creative ideas for twists or advantages or themes. It doesn't mean every idea makes it into the show. We still have a process for how we make Survivor. But to be an all-star on our production team, you have to have the same mind set as a player — take risks. Great things come when you do.

And that trust extends to every department on our show. Trust. It's a beautiful thing, isn't it? Kinda like how you trust me to always give you the right information in our weekly Q&A. And usually I do. In fact, I'd say 99.999 percent of the time I do. Really, I do. Last week, eh, not so much. Call me quarantine stir-crazy, but I said that the idols on the Edge of Extinction are now dead. That is wrong. Dead wrong, El Probesto. They still have another "Get Back In The Game Challenge," and if they get back in the game, their idol still works. Send me to Extinction, I deserve it.

We're starting to see a lot of scrambling and paranoia. What can you tease up for next week?

The GREATEST LOVED ONES OF ALL TIME. Grab your tissues.

Re: [FunBBGroup] Re: tiger King

I am on episode 6.    I agree, Carole likely killed her husband.   And fed to tigers.

I think these animals should either go to accredited zoos or sent to their natural area, like Africa and Asia, and kept contained, but efforts made to acclimate any cubs to the wild.

It was quite intriguing.  I didn't see enough to think that Tiger King should be in prison for that long.  And the Cat Lady isn't a saint either.  I'm not convinced she didn't off her husband somehow.  As much as I'd love to be able to hold and pet beautiful animals like that (tigers, leopards), I don't think people should be having them as pets, especially when there's less in the wild than there is in captivity, living in cages around the world.
