The teams of 10 are almost full! Blake, Kelly, Gwen have two more spots each, while John has 3.

Julia Cooper – Alaska – 21 – Poland OH – She's a small town girl who both sings and dances. Currently, she attends Middle Tennessee University. She also works a few jobs on the side. After the pandemic hit, she lost her jobs and had to move back in with her parents. John, Gwen and Kelly turn right away. She's a decent singer, but not very dynamic. She does have a pretty tone, especially in her head voice. John notes that he's also from Ohio, and believes they were meant to be together. He loves how she moves back and forth between her head and chest voice. He calls her vocal a "revelation." Kelly is playing hardball! She says John's team member Kami is very similar, and that Julia would be unique on Team Kelly.  Gwen likes her confidence. John, Gwen and Kelly turn. Julia picks John

Apropos – I Heard it Through the Grapevine by Marvin Gaye – 31 – Detroit MI – He chose "Apropos" as solo name because…he's versatile? Or something. At the age of two, his father passed away. His mother encouraged his musical talent, beginning piano lessons at 7. He recorded an album, and signed with a UK label. Elton John introduces his song on the radio. Her mom calls him "Apropos" which seems highly unlikely in private. He picks an old school Motown song, which is perfectly suited to his gravely soulful voice. There is a ton of energy in that performance. But nobody turned. He definitely deserved a turn. John didn't like his melodic choices. Gwen loved the first couple of notes. She and Kelly were close. But both felt his performance was too linear. Blake feels they let one get away. I agree. – No Turns

John Sullivan – Operator by Jim Croce – 32 – Denver NC – He's VERY TALL. He played piano growing up. Baseball was his first love, though. He pitched, made a college roster and then played independent baseball. He started playing music on the side, and eventually switched to music full time. He's married and has a young son. He calls himself "Mr. Mom." This sounds like bar music. Nothing special going on here, yet Blake turns for him. And then Gwen. This is a very boring performance.  John is impressed by his tone and intimacy. Blake and Gwen listen to 70s music at home. "I love yacht rock!" says Gwen. Kelly was looking into more deviation. She's right. He could have done more to interpret that song. Blake and Gwen turn, John picks Blake

Skylar Alyvia Mayton – Blinding Lights – 15 – Grand Rapids MI – Youn Skylar stands in front of Kelly's giant photo and begs "Please pick me Kelly!" She confesses to being a huge fan of the iconic singer. And Kelly is the first to turn. Skylar has a very pretty turn and a bell like upper register. That was a very nice rendition. Kelly is the only turn. But Skylar does not care! Kelly thanks the other coaches for not turning.                                                                                                                       Lain Roy – Someone You Loved by Lewis Capaldi – 22 – Larkspur CO – He started in the shadows, but once he emerged–he looks REALLY young. But his parents aren't with him, so he's probably not a teen. His voice is beautiful, great tone interesting phrasing. This song is covered A LOT on singing shows and is verging on over done. But I liked his version, quite a lot.. Only Gwen and John turned.  His mom was a touring artist. But Lain didn't begin singing until 10th grade when he performed John's "All of Me" for a talent show. He started at Berklee and then transferred to Belmont. As Lain and John hit it off. Gwen gets up out of her chair. She knows she's out gunned here. She sells herself as a "package coach" who has tons and tons of experience. Blake is all in for his girlfriend, however. Gwen and John turn, Lain picks Gwen
Jared Ming – Drunk Me – 32 – Honolulu HI – He's from Denver but currently lives in Hawaii. He loves to surf, and swim with dolphins. "The people are super kind." He worked steadily pre-pandemic. Interestingly, he's a country singer. Which isn't a big community of singers on the island. He's got the vocal of a soul singer. But is singing country. His voice is strong, but he's kind of shouty. Nobody turns. Gwen noted the pitchiness. John calls his tone "solid." Blake thinks his voice wants to soar a little more. He didn't like the song choice – No turns told me."

Worth The Wait – When Will I Be Loved by Linda Ronstadt – (Tara 47, Nia 15, JC 13) – Center AL – The girls have been singing all their lives. They love singing for random cashiers. In once case, the person behind them recorded it and the video went viral–40 million views. The popularity of the video helped book a lot of gigs. Their older singer used to be part of the trio, but she had a special needs baby. He has a rare skin disease. Mom stepped in to take her place. The harmonies take the coaches by surprise. All four turn. They do have those great sibling harmonies going. We previewed this performance HERE. Gwen mentions working with her brother in a band. Although the girls are country, Gwen calls herself the "fresh one." Blake is burnt out. Then Trace Adkins (ew) appears on video to stick up for Gwen. Kelly felt there were iffy parts. She will push them like a choir director. Blake would be PROUD to be their coach. No hard sell.. He probably doesn't need it. John mentions that he sang with his family and directed an acapella group. Nevertheless, they choose Blake.

Blake's team is full!

Emmalee – How Will I Know by Whitney Houston – 20 – Clarksville TN – An only child, she's been singing for a long time. At 13, she began c0-writing for film and TV. She got a song in The Young and Restless. She works mostly in Nashville. She's pretty accomplished for a 20 year old. Emmalee chooses to perform a stripped down version of the Whitney classic. John and Kelly turn right away. That first note was huge. This countrified arrangement is a little odd. However, Emmalee is big voiced, but effortless. It feels like she has even more she's not revealing quite yet. John and Kelly turn. John says he's all about tone, and hers struck him right away. Gwen loved the arrangement. Kelly felt the song showed her artistry. "You have air for days!" she says. And Emmalee chooses Kelly –

Kelly's team is full!

Bailey Rae – 18 0 Roberta OK – At 5, she joined a competitive clogging team. She lives in a house on many acres. The comes from a rodeo family. She has gigged across the south, including at Blake's Old Tish in Oklahoma. Too bad his team is filled. Both Kelly and Blake seem bumed they can't turn for Bailey's old school country style. John hits his button. It's going to be an odd fit. Maybe he can help her pitch problems. Otherwise, her classic style is impressive. Blake pledges to steal her in the Battles. Oh geez. Kelly and Blake are fighting over her…in the future. John loves the little slides into notes. John has never had a country artist on his team. Oh boy. I bet she does end up on Team Blake eventually. – Only John turned

Neci – God Bless the Child – 32 – Nashville TN – She's a labor and delivery nurse. The pandemic has been "a lot." She's also studying to get her masters. And she's raising three young children. Neci hs a very jazzy voice. But nobody is turning. The family looks so upset. She has a few pitch problems. Maybe that's why nobody hit their buttons. She deserved a turn, I think. Blake calls her gifted. He wonders why John didn't turn. He wanted more discipline and control. Gwen loves her vibrato. She was "this close" to turning.   – No Turns

Tori Miller – When You Say Nothing at All by Alison Krauss – 26 – Siloam Springs AR – She was raised on classic country, her parents ran a local opry. Her dad was an addict. After her parents divorced, she didn't have much to do with him. At 18 she reached out to him, and they became close. But sadly, he died last year. Gwen hits her button, although there are pitch problems galore. Tori has a nice tone, but her phrasing is flat. I mean, she can't even hold a note, it trails off flat. Gwen calls her voice "soothing." Kelly noted the shakiness. Gwen calls her "quite young." Uh…she's 26. Only Gwen turned

Gwen's team is full!

James Pyle – Watermelon Sugar by Harry Styles – 30 – West Hills CA – Currently, he lives in Ohio, for some reason. He's a drummer in a band, but always wanted to sing. He kept it to himself until he was 20. He's married and has a family. James has only performed about 3 gigs–a couple of open mics in Columbus. Interesting song choice. His vocal is a little too stylized–he sounds forced. But overall, he has an interesting sound. He could use some coaching. John hit his button, it could be a fruitful collaboration. Kelly and Gwen wanted to turn for him. Gwen threatens to steal him later. – Only John Turned

And John's team is FULL! The Battle Rounds begin next Monday, November 9. The Voice is preempted tomorrow night for American election returns.
