The Amazing Race is returning to CBS for yet another trip around the world! What's the premiere date for The Amazing Race 32?

The 32nd season of the Emmy-winning reality series The Amazing Race will premiere on Wednesday, Oct. 14 at 9 p.m. ET. CBS had previously planned a special two-hour premiere on Wednesday, May 20. With production shutdown due to COVID-19, the network pushed back the season to fill holes in its fall schedule.

When did The Amazing Race 32 film?

It is estimated that The Amazing Race 32 filmed between November 10 and December 3, 2018. You read that right! Season 32 has been sitting on a shelf at CBS for almost two years!

Is there a theme for The Amazing Race 32?

According to host Phil Keoghan, the 32nd season will be taking a "back to basics" approach. The cast seems to go back to the show's overlying motif of teams representing all types of relationships and lifestyles. The show has taken to producing "themes" since season 28, with installments revolving around social media personalities, pairs of strangers, "champions" in their fields, and alumni from various CBS reality shows.

New Zealander and reality veteran Phil Keoghan will be returning for his thirty-second season as host. In addition to The Amazing Race, he has recently announced he will be hosting and executive producing the new competition series Tough as Nails, which throws the spotlight on real people who are real tough in real life as a result of their physically demanding everyday jobs and puts them through tests of strength, endurance, agility and mental toughness. Keoghan also hosts the interview podcast Buckit, which has had on guests like Alfred Molina, Bonnie Hunt, and Carmelita Jeter.

It's hard to know about this point! Season 33 started production Feb. 22, 2020. CBS halted production after filming three episodes and making stops in England and Scotland. Based on the few photos shared on social media, we're pretty sure at least one of the couples is from another CBS reality show. Caroline "Caro" Viehweg and Ray Gantt appeared on CBS's version of Love Island, which aired in summer 2019. They're the only couple still together after Love Island season one. That shows a bit of hope on the part of CBS that they would tie it to another network series. But the world is a much different place than it was when filming began. Who knows what the new normal will be, especially in terms of international travel. But we have our fingers crossed that The Amazing Race returns stronger than ever!

"I'm very lucky to work with a group of people who are focused on excellence. It's that quest for excellence, I guess, and never settling for anything but the best."

Is Coronavirus Affecting The Amazing Race?

Filming has halted for the Emmy-winning reality series only a couple of weeks into production.. CBS has temporarily suspended the race due to worldwide cases of the coronavirus, which have been growing substantially over the past couple of weeks.

"Due to increased concerns and uncertainty regarding the coronavirus around the world, CBS and the producers of 'The Amazing Race' have taken the precautionary measure of temporarily suspending production on the 33rd season of the series," a CBS spokesperson told Variety.

"All contestants and production staff are in the process of returning home," they went on to say. "At this time, no Racers or anyone on the production team traveling with them have contracted the virus, or shown symptoms, and we are not aware of anyone being exposed to it. Out of an abundance of caution, everyone involved in the show will continue to be monitored when they return home. The health and well-being of the Racers and the production team are our top priorities."
