Corey Feldman is getting ready to share His Truth

by Kirsten
Corey Feldman leans against a high table. He is a Caucasian male with black hair that falls into his face. He is wearing dark sunglasses. He is wearing white pants and a long black coat. He is holding a microphone to his mouth to speak.
Not pictured his amazing holographic shoes!
For a lot of us, Corey Feldman was as much a part of our childhoods as scraped knees. From The Goonies to Gremlins to Stand by Me to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and to many other titles to name.. But next month his (my) Truth: The Rape of 2 Coreys documentary comes out and it may be the biggest project of his career. (my) Truth will tell the story of the sexual abuse Feldman and his late friend and fellow actor Corey Haim experienced while being young and in Hollywood. And this time he's going to name names - big names.
There have been many roadblocks when it comes to Feldman sharing his truth. Publishers of his autobiography demanded he change the names of his abusers and when it comes to (my) Truth no distributor wanted to touch it. This sadly isn't all that surprising, 2014's An Open Secret, directed by Amy J. Berg, which looks at underground child pedophile rings faced similar push back. In fact, in the first version, An Open Secret named four huge Hollywood names involved in the pedophile ring but was later forced to edit them out. But this time Feldman isn't going to let anything stop him. He spent the last three years working in order to raise the money to create and stream (my) Truth himself. And (my) Truth will be shown in a very unconventional way it is currently a one time live streaming pay-per-view. As Feldman explained he bought the bandwith himself in order to show it. He said that if he sells enough tickets then he'd be able to show it a second time. (Note: At the time of FanExpo Vancouver there was only one scheduled stream, now there are two)
Feldman explained that he made a promise to Haim before he died that one way or another he was going to tell their story. A story that Feldman said he wishes he didn't have to make at all. When the #metoo movement took over a few years ago Feldman said he had people tell him to share his story, but at the time he said had tried, that it was someone else's turn, that he was done.
But he wasn't. And if I learned anything about Corey Feldman at this panel it's that he has more perseverance than most. He said he learned that "trying wasn't an option," and he had no choice but to do it. I can't commend him enough for this and I wish I stuck around after the panel even to just shake his hand (so Corey in the slim chance you see this, consider this a handshake. And if you're ever in Vancouver again, I won't let the chance pass by me then).
Honestly, I could have listened to Feldman speak about this documentary for the entire panel. I will always advocate for survivors of sexual assault and for them to have a space to share their stories. I hope this stream is successful and I hope it helps both Coreys find the peace they deserve. But of course, there were other questions because this is Corey Feldman - how can there not be?
Feldman said out of all his projects he had the most fun on the set of The Goonies (1985) - "how could you not have fun with 7 kids around the same age?" He described it as being on an adventure with friends for six months. He also met a lot of people as director Stephen Spielberg invented them to set, one person was Harrison Ford who got a tour of the caves and One-Eyed-Willy's ship - which led to a reunion with Data's actor Ke Huy Quan who played Shortround in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (1984). "Everyone in the world stopped by that set," Feldman said - and really... who wouldn't want to go by that set.
(Also for the record Cyndi Lauper's song "The Goonies 'r' Good Enough," and the accompanying music video are VERY underrated and the song still slaps!)
Feldman really enjoyed working on The Lost Boys (1987) as it was "the first rock and roll vampire movie and it kicked ass!" It's also the movie that made vampires cool again in the mainstream media. It was also on that set that he met Corey Haim.
When asked about Gremlins (1984) Feldman said that it was only after shooting he realized how scary it was. During filming, he had a lot of fun. He also revealed he stole some of the Mogwai's fur trimmings to show off at school. At the time no one believed he was in a movie "130 million later, oh really, I think I was!"
Tickets for (my) Truth: The Rape of 2 Coreys are on sale now at mytruthdoc.com. The documentary will air as a live PPV on March 9, 2020 at 8:00pm PST and on March 10, 2020 at 12:00pm PST.
