Re: [FunBBGroup] So, I'm a Nielsen House!

So, we got the boxes Wednesday, and read the manual's that came with it, and I wasn't supposed to tell anyone ROFL  I told them I told this group though, the guy said so long as no one pressured me to watch shows it was fine LOL  I think it's for 2 years?  Not sure though, but all indications are for 2 years.

No, it was a different company that also does ratings.  I wish I could remember the name of it.  Yea, they were meters we wore all the time that like you said picked up everything we watched or listened to..and yes it would charge overnight and it would transmit the data to them and then we got paid monthly.  Even though it wasn't a ton of money it was money for basically doing nothing and it was nice to have and great for our kids who were young at the time.  Do you get to do it for a 2 year period too?   Oh I just asked my husband..the name of the company we used was arbitron.

That sounds like what Nielsen is sending us.  A device to wear to pick up all tv and radio we are exposed to, and we charge it at night. We will get these two beacon things we plug into a wall, that transmits.   Maybe yours was a beta test for Nielsen?

That's great.  My family did something like this too.  It wasn't neilsen...and it was years ago..but it was a different ratings company that pays.  We had to wear these tiny devices all day (and then we put it on a charger at night)...and it also picked up whatever we watched on tv, dvr etc.  We did it for a 2 year period and we got paid monthly for it too..  My kids were little and they were able to do it too which started their savings accounts nicely for them.  It wasn't a super amount of money but it was something for doing nothing really and it was nice for the kids to earn a little money too.  Funny because i can't remember the name of the company now but at first i wasn't sure it was legit and had to research it and it all was on the up and up.

I'm hoping to find out more when the box gets here.  My son told the lady he only watches Hulu and Netflix and she said not to worry, it would pick it up.

That is interesting that they say they pick up streaming since I've never heard of neilson reporting any numbers for netflix/amazon/cbsaa/etc.

A few weeks ago I got a letter from Nielsen, along with 2 crisp dollar bills, saying they'd be calling me to ask about my viewing habits.  They called, and I answered some questions, the general, how many in household, ages, sexes, income range, and what channels I've watched in the last 3 days.  No biggie, didn't hurt me any to answer, so I did.  Now, in the early 90s, I was chosen to record in a little booklet what I watched for a month.  Wasn't a lot, as it was when I was working 3 jobs and full time student.

Anyhow, so I got another letter last week, saying they'd call.  They called Sunday, and we were chosen to be an actual Nielsen house!  As in what I watch represents a lot of people.  They shipped our devices we use to record what we watch and listen to (something about beacons that each show and station put out, I don't understand how it works).  They don't do the box attached to your TV any longer, and they pick up streaming, too.  I asked about DVR, as I watch 99% of my shows from the DVR, they said it picks it all up, even the streaming services.

This is so cool.  She explained the financial compensation, we get paid monthly, but I wasn't really paying attention to be honest.  I am more excited that I actually have a voice in hopefully keeping the shows I like on the air LOL
