Colorado school shooting leaves 'multiple' victims, at least 2 in custody, sheriff's office says
Colorado sherrif's department reporting shots fired at high school
STEM School Highlands Ranch on lockdown following the shooting.
A shooting Tuesday afternoon at a school in Colorado left "multiple" victims injured and at least two suspects were in custody, the sheriff's office said, warning that it was still an "active shooter situation."
At least two suspects have been taken into custody following the incident that took place at the STEM school, Douglas County Undersheriff Holly Nicholson-Kluth said at a news conference.
Authorities responded at 1:53 p.m. local time for a "call of shots fired in school" at "STEM school off Ridgeline Blvd," the sheriff's office tweeted.
Authorities urged the public to avoid the area.
Multiple units from the South Metro Fire Rescue reported to the scene to help, the agency said on Twitter.
A lockdown was put in place at the STEM school, while "all other Highlands Ranch schools are on lockout," the Douglas County School District tweeted.
The Denver office of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) tweeted that they were responding to the scene.
