The fifteen remaining home cooks had to pair off on tonight's all-new episode of "MasterChef" for the latest challenge.
The first challenge tonight was an ingredients test. The judges gave the teams five ingredients to cook with and they had to determine what to make with such ingredients. The ingredients were a whole chicken, carrots, onion, bacon, and cornmeal. The judges all gave examples of what the teams to cook and afterward they discussed the one person that hadn't gotten pick by a team. There was an uneven number of contestants and so Ralph found himself being left out however that turned out to be beneficial for him because he rewarded a partner by the judges. The judges chose to partner Ralph with Joe Bastianich and seeing as he was coming away from such a partnership with a major advantage, Ralph was also safe from elimination.
Ralph walked away with a great deal he hadn't been expecting when everyone else left him the odd one out and no one saw that coming. The others had all partnered up with people they thought they could work or people they knew would be honest with them and so the remaining judges got to watch these partnerships play out. There were Taylor and Ashley who were a bad pairing right from the beginning because both were too nice to take the lead and then there was the Cesar and Mark team. The guys acted like teacher and student from the start, but it turns out following someone's lead the whole time without any input worked against Mark. Mark thought they would cook something amazing and instead their Chicken Roulade with Bell Peppers, Jalapenos, and Roasted Carrots looked sad.
The dish was a few bare pieces thrown together and the meat couldn't look decision when they were cut up in pieces the sizes of a quarter, so right away the judges had been disappointed with those two. The next team that would be judged would be Julia and S.J. The two cooked Roasted Chicken Breast with Chicken Skin Chicharron and Polenta Cake and it had been delicious. Julia had taken the lead in that pairing and she had also cooked the chicken breast. In other words, she knew how to lead her team. The next pairing had been Farhan and Emily who cooked an Indian Style Chicken & Waffles. The spices had been right at that time and there had been a level of sweetness that caught the judges by surprise.
The next set was Bowen and Shanika. The two cooked Pork Stuffed Chicken with Sweet and Spicy Sauce and Friend Polenta and the judges had actually liked it. The two had stuffed their meat very well and it was better executed than the other team. Now, the following team had been a Chelsea and Samantha. They cooked Crispy Chicken Breast with Caramelized Onion Cream Sauce and Parmesan Polenta Cake and they flavor on it had been great. The judges just believe there could have been a little more heat on that polenta cake. The team after them had been Ryan and Gerron who cooked Fried Chicken with Bourbon, Bacon, and Onion Jam and unfortunately, they fried their chicken in that unrefined cornmeal. It made for a very crunchy chicken and it was a major downside because everything else on the plate had been great.
Now, the team that had worried everyone the most had been Ashley and Taylor. They had cooked Pan-Seared Chicken Breast with Sautéed Carrots, Bacon, and Cornbread and it looked dismal. There was barely anything on the plate and so the judges didn't even taste it because they had to know what went wrong. The partnership had never looked that strong and it turns out it wasn't. They both started to blame each other for what went wrong and there weren't any real carrots on the plate because they argued over the carrots puree. The puree was what they were going to cook and Ashley failed to execute them properly. She also wouldn't take the blame for them because she said it had been Taylor's idea to do them and that she supposedly mentioned doing something else.
Neither of them chose to take responsibility. The real truth of the matter was that they both argued over what to do with the carrots and had also argued about how to cut the chicken. The two of them were dysfunctional at best and so they hadn't won the challenge. The team that was ultimately the winner of this challenge had been Julia and S.J. They had rightly deserved it and they along with several other teams were safe from the elimination challenge. The home cooks that had to cook in the Elimination Challenge were Taylor, Ashley, Cesar, Mark, Gerron, and Ryan. These chosen six had to cook a cheese souffle for what could be their last challenge in the competition. And unfortunately, from the start, Taylor was the weakest.
Taylor was the slowest at mixing her souffle and that made her souffle was the last one in. She put hers in with ten minutes on the clock and that meant she would have to crack up the heat at the last minute or risk it being undercooked. The others had all had better timing and somehow Mark messed up because he took his souffle out before realizing he needed to put it back in. That could have defeated him however it turns Mark's souffle was the best and so he went on to win this challenge.
The others, unfortunately, weren't so lucky!
There were some whose hadn't been great and then there had been the two worst ones. The two worst souffles were cooked by Cesar and Ryan though the judges chose to eliminate Ryan!
The cornmeal and then a souffle that tasted of raw egg, it just wasn't Ryan's night.
THE END!
