In the MasterChef Junior episode entitled "Donut Sweat It," Tilly Ramsey (Matilda) joins her father  Gordon, and the other judges Christina Tosi and Joe Bastianich. After a few of the 14 remaining chefs master a donut competition, the contestants face an elimination challenge where they have to replicate one of Tilly's signature dishes. Two more of the junior chefs will leave the kitchen after the elimination challenge.Donut Sweat It

In the first challenge, Christina instructs the young chefs to pick one of the tasty treats displayed in the Kitchen. After each contestant chooses a donut from the pile,Gordon tells them they will compete in a team challenge. The young cooks with the green, pink, and yellow donuts will compete in the competition while the remaining cooks watch the event from the balcony above.

The Green team composed of Mikey and Pierce represents Joe. Representing Christina for the Yellow team are Beni, and Quani. Olivia, and Emily are playing for Gordon on the Red team. The contestants are told the team frosting the most donuts in 10 minutes will win the challenge. It wouldn't be MasterChef Junior without a twist or two. The donuts have to be close to perfect to count in their total and the judge of the losing team will be turned into a human donut as punishment. Joe has the pleasure of revealing the final twist when he explains the pairs will complete the challenge banded together as one individual.

Mike and Pierce decide the best strategy is to throw appearance out the window and frost as many donuts as they can in the time allowed. They figure that if they have more donuts than everyone else, even if they aren't perfect, the odds will be in their favor.

Beni and Quani get a nice rhythm going frosting enough donuts to come in second place. Gordon appears visibly worried about his team. Olivia and Emily get off to a slow and methodical start. The young ladies' strategy is the opposite of the green team's. The red team decides even if they frost fewer donuts if they have more perfect ones they still have a shot to win the challenge.

They were right. Olivia and Emily won the challenge frosting 28 perfect donuts. Beni and Quani frosted 27 and Mikey and Pierce came in last with 26 perfectly frosted donuts.

Teamwork

After the donut challenge, the judges announce the Red and Yellow teams are both safe from elimination. As Joe prepares to be frosted (covered in goop and sprinkles) he reminds the kids the challenge was all about teamwork. He votes Gordon and Christina should have to face the slime as well since the three judges are all on the same team. The other two judges play along and join Joe in the center of a giant donut and allowed the kids to dump frosting and sprinkles on them.

The Red and Yellow teams learn they are both safe from the elimination. They head up to the balcony to watch the second challenge while munching on a box of fresh donuts cooked by Christina.

Tilly Burgers and Fries

After the donut challenge, Gordon Ramsey proclaims he's the best chef in his house, the contestants hear a voice disputing that claim. Matilda (Tilly) Ramsey enters the kitchen and tells her dad that her signature dish is tastier than his version.

Tilly reveals her signature dish is a burger and fries. She shows them how to recreate her recipe. Stuffed with cheese, the burger features a salad of arugula on top of a grilled portobello mushroom and pesto aioli. The fries are all evenly cut and tossed in sea salt and parsley. After the demonstration, Tilly tells the junior chefs they have 45 minutes to recreate her dish exactly. Joe reminds them two of the young chefs will leave the kitchen for good at the end of the elimination challenge.

  • Anthony: Forgets a crucial element of the Tilly burger and has to start over. When the judges critiqued his burger, they decide it's undercooked and not the right size for the burger.
  • Mikey: Received praise from Gordon and Tilly on his burger. It was almost a perfect replica of Tilly's.
  • Camson: He placed his burger on a cold griddle. The mistake resulted in a raw burger that did not appeal to the judges. Even though Gordon and Tilly tried to taste the burger, it was clear from Gordon's comments that Camson might be in trouble.
  • Ariana: Overall, Christina was pleased with Ariana's final product. Her only knock on the dish was that the fries weren't crispy enough.
  • Avery: Avery's burger was overcooked.
  • Maria: As soon as the judges cut into Maria's burger, her eyes filled with tears. Her burger was so overcooked the cheese in the center had cooked out of it. Gordon didn't make it any easier for her when he told her the burger was a complete letdown for him.
  • Evan: Evan received the highest praise of the night. All the judges liked his burger and Tilly commented the burger was superb. He also nailed the fries and the cook on the mushroom.
  • Remy: Her burger had a few issues. The mushroom was undercooked and the burger was overcooked. To make matters worse she put too much sauce on the burger to compensate for overcooking it.
Mikey and Evan received the nods for best dishes. The judges felt they did the best job of recreating Tilly's dish. Evan won the challenge with the best dish of the night which wasn't a surprise given that Gordon's daughter liked his recreation the best. Unfortunately, Avery, Marie, Camson, and Remy had the worst dishes. Joe told Remy her overconfidence in the challenge might have been her downfall. Both Avery and Remy dodge the bullet and told to go to the balcony. Camson and Marie are eliminated.

Do you think the judges made the right decision? Who did the best job of recreating Tilly's signature burger? Let us know in the comments below.
