Re: [Reality-TV-Fanatics] 'The Voice' Recap: The Playoffs Reach Their Messy Conclusion

I haven't really been watching this season but I'll probably tune in on Tuesday now that the top 12 have been picked,  I prefer watching the voice over AI

I agree with Adam this new voting format was stupid. I hope they don't do that any more.
So ok now we are down to 3 each.
I usually pick Blake as the coach winner but this year? I just don't think he has the strongest ones I think Kellys is weak. I believe it will come down to Alicia or Adam
I think Kelly should have kept Tish over DR King
Why Blake picked Spensher I have no clue but he must see something

'The Voice' Recap: The Playoffs Reach Their Messy Conclusion

The Voice Playoffs have lasted at least one episode more than they needed, but they're finally coming to an end.. Following the remainders of Team Alicia and Team Blake, Team Adam and Team Kelly took to the stage to finish things off. This is enough to fill the time but The Voice also must fit all the results in one tight hour episode. This Playoff finale is The Voice on fast forward, which is disorienting, but at least Carson's mugging to the camera is kept to a minimum.

Kaleb Lee ("Die A Happy Man")

The chances of Kaleb making to the Top 12 are minuscule at best. He did have a slight improvement in the Knockouts .... that nosedived as soon as we reached the Voice Playoffs. Kaleb's performance here is just fine. Although, it's rather prescient his song is about dying a happy man as this probably his farewell Voice performance. At least his cowboy hat looks cool.

Alexa Cappelli ("Stop and Stare")

Kelly's made a lot of weird decisions with her team. Alexa making into the Live Shows is one of the most surprising, especially since she got there by beating early favorite Jorge Eduardo. Alexa has had little time on The Voice stage and she just seems so unprepared for the competition. She rushes through "Stop and Stare" which by all accounts is meant to be a slow song but it reduces Kelly to tears ... maybe because she's finally realizing her team is the weakest.

D.R. King ("All on My Mind")

Team Kelly finally gets a decent performance with D.R. King taking the stage. D.R. is still a long way from winning the competition but he is the one competitor that Team Kelly has with her at this point. D.R. has a ridiculous range and power. D.R. could do whatever he wanted and stand out. This is one of his lesser performances but still above anything about Team Kelly this night (so far).

Dylan Hartigan ("Mary Jane's Last Dance")

"Mary Jane's Last Dance" is many things. It can be viewed as a song about Tom Petty's  divorce or it can be viewed as a ballad about heavy drug use.. The one thing "Mary Jane's Last Dance" isn't: sexy. Yet, no one bothered to tell Dylan Hartigan that fact.
Dylan has no "off switch" for his boy band dance moves and gyrating. If it was annoying before (and it certainly was) it reaches unbearable status here. The shame is that Dylan has a decent voice, he just distracts from it by trying to make love to everyone in the audience with his eyes. I fully expect Dylan to go through because people are shallow. I fully expect to be enraged.

Tish Haynes Keys ("At Last")

From the valley of Dylan, The Voice goes rocketing into the peak of Tish Haynes Keys. Tish does pick a very difficult song and she doesn't pull it off flawlessly. There are some pitchy and rough moments, yet any downsides are made up by her high, high notes. Tish is a powerhouse, in every sense of the word. She'll be battling with Team Blake's Kyla Jade in the Live Shows, assuming she moves through, but she should.

Reid Umstattd ("Long Cool Woman (In a Black Dress)")

There's quite a few other artists on Team Adam who I'd like to see move on besides Reid, so I'm with Reid getting the opening "death slot" even with the weird way the voices are being handled this time around. Reid does a fine job but it's not a Top 12 worthy performance. At least it shouldn't become one.

Jackie Verna ("Once")

There's no way to get around it. If Jackie Verna and Jackie Foster make to the Live Shows, it's going to be a nightmare. Not only do they have the same name, but they look similar and have very similar tones. The only difference is that Verna is on Team Adam and Foster is on Team Alicia.

Of the two Jackie's, Team Alicia's version is better but Verna proves she's passable enough. This isn't her best performance ever but it's pleasant. She might sneak into the Top 12, but she may not entirely belong there.

Drew Cole ("Wild Horses")
Adam's current bromantic interest takes the stage and does his standard thing. Drew has really only gotten this far in the compeititon because Adam likes him personally. Yet, Drew has shown improvements throughout the season. This is one of his best performances so far. It's not special but it's acceptable.

 Mia Boostrom ("Either Way")

In the first round of Playoffs, Mia missed her chance of making the Top 12 by picking the wrong song. "Baby I Love You" just didn't fit her voice. "Either Way" is a better choice on paper, but not in practice. She is on the back foot the entire performance and can't even approach the notes she needs to hit. Mia's Voice hopes, crashed and burned hard in these live shows. She seemed so promising and now she's crumbled.

Rayshun LaMarr ("I'm Going Down")

Rayshunn really leaves nothing on the floor for this performance. He's going all out to earn his spot with this performance and it's very fun to watch, if a bit exhausting. Rayshun does a bit too much acting while performing, it's not Dylan Hartigan bad, but he's very flamboyant. Rayshun does have a technically impressive voice though. If he doesn't make into the Top 12, it will not be for lack of trying.

The Results

Here's a refresher of how the result will be decided. One more artist is moving forward due to viewer votes, following the contestants who moved forward in round one. Out of the remaining four artists left, the coach will pick one of them to move forward. It's messy but so is this new way of voting.

First up is Team Blake. To the surprise of no one, Pyror Baird gets the votes.. Pyror Baird is in the Top 12! However, what is a surprise is that Blake picks Spensha Baker. It's weird but not eregious.

Next up is Team Kelly. Out of nowhere Kaleb Lee gets the votes from America. Kaleb Lee is in the Top 12 for reasons only the most devoted Voice viewers can explain. Kelly picks D.R. King as her third artist. It's not Tish but at least it's not Dylan.

Team Alicia follows Team Kelly. Jackie Foster gets through on America's votes.. Jacke Foster is in the Top 12 which is absolutely no surprise. With Britton and Jackie, Alicia still has one of the strongest teams going into the Top 12. After Alicia gives one of her long speeches about beauty and her artists' souls, she chooses Christiana Danielle. (I would've chosen Kelsea but whatever. You do you Alicia.)

Team Adam closes it out. Rayshun LaMarr gets America's votes and moves onto the Top 12. Before Adam makes his pick, he speaks for us all and says this new format is stupid and should never happen again. Then he ruins that good will by choosing Jackie Verna.

To sum it all up, The Top 12 are:

Team Blake

  • Kyla Jade
  • Pryor Baird
  • Spensha Baker

Team Kelly

  • Brynn Cartelli
  • Kaleb Lee
  • D.R. King

Team Alicia

  • Britton Buchanan
  • Christian Danielle
  • Jackie Foster

Team Adam

  • Sharane Calister
  • Rayshun LaMarr
  • Jackie Verna

But what do you make of the selections? How do you feel the voting worked? Was it fine or was it a disaster? Which coach has the best team now? Who would you have saved in the coaches positions?

WHICH COACH HAS THE BEST TEAM?

Alicia
52%
Blake
26%
Adam
11%
Kelly
11%
Total Votes: 281
