In the MasterChef Junior episode entitled "Crackin' Under Pressure/Junior Edition" five of the young chefs leave the kitchen for good. During the first hour of the two part episode the chefs cook Eggs Benedict in the team challenge and an egg yolk ravioli in the pressure test. The packed two hour episode includes a team task, two melt downs, two eliminations and a canned mystery box challenge.

Cracking the Top 10

In the first challenge of the night, the chefs are split into teams of four which are determined by the color of the egg goop the contestants smash on their heads. With safety from elimination on the line the teams are asked to make eggs Benedict. The team that makes the most in thirty minutes wins safety and a spot in the top ten.

Blue Team

Remy
Quani
Beni
Cade

All nine of the Blue Team's dishes were perfectly cooked. The flawless execution gave the blue team the win, safety from the next elimination challenge and saved them from being covered in egg goop.

Green Team

Ariana
Sammy
Evan
Avery

The Green Team presented 14 dishes to the judges during the team challenge. Unfortunately, six of their dishes didn't meet the judges' quality standards. That left the green team in second place with eight perfect dishes.

Red Team

Olivia
Mikey
Henry
Anthony

The Red Team did not work well together. They managed to get five egg dishes on plates for the judges to critique. They joined the green team in a special egg slime bath as punishment for losing the competition.

After getting out of harm's way the Blue Team gleefully pushed the button to release gallons of egg yolk on the losing teams.

  • All Yolk and No Play

The members of the blue team watch from the balcony as their friends compete in a tough pressure test. Joe shows the kids how to make pasta and then fill it with ricotta and a single egg yolk. Once they make a perfect ravioli, the young chefs create a brown butter sage sauce to spoon over their ravioli. As the chefs roll out their dough, the judges remind them at least two of them will leave the kitchen at the end of the pressure test.

  • Mikey: Gordon checks on Mikey during his walk around. He asks Mikey what he wants to do 10 years from now and Mikey informs him he's found a restaurant up for sale in his hometown that he wants to buy. When Gordon asks Mikey if he can be better than him one day. Mikey says, "Of course." At the judges table the judges tell Mikey he has too much ricotta cheese but other than that, his dish is spot on.
  • Olivia: Joe gives Olivia five stars on her dish and declares it perfect.
  • Avery: Joe is impressed by Avery's dish and gives her 5.5 stars.
  • Ariana: Her yolk and butter sauce were cooked well, but Gordon took issue with her pasta. The thickness caused the pasta to be tough.
  • Anthony: His egg yolk was over cooked. He sautéed the ravioli in the butter sauce for almost two minutes after taking it out of the boiling water. Christine commented on his lack of seasoning as well.
  • Henry: Had a rough time during the challenge. Joe and Christine talked with him at his station. He was having problems getting his dough to roll out. Joe explained to him he needed to calm down and get his emotions together if he wanted to put up a winning dish. The dish he handed the judges contain a few good elements, nut his ricotta isn't seasoned well and his egg to ricotta ratio is off.
  • Evan: His pasta was a bit too thick, but definitely not the worst dish of the night.
  • Sammy: For some reason, Sammy tried to path his ravioli. The result looks like a lattice for a pie crust or a patchwork quilt. Gordon lays into him pretty hard leading Avery and Mike to whisper among themselves about how rude and mean Gordon is being to Sammy.

The judges' least favorite egg yolk ravioli belonged to Ariana, Anthony, Henry, and Sammy. Ariana, Sammy, and Henry were eliminated from the competition for serving the judge's least favorite recreations of the egg yolk ravioli dish. Gordon made a point of saying their decision was based solely on the ravioli dish. Based on the comments of the judges Anthony should have gone home instead of Ariana. Even though her pasta was too thick her yolk was perfectly cooked, and her filling was well seasoned. Anthony's yolk was overcooked and unseasoned.

Olivia and Avery produced the best egg yolk ravioli dishes of the night.

    All Cans on Deck

The second hour of the two-part episode kicks off with a Mystery Box challenge. Each chef has 45 minutes to create a restaurant quality dish using the canned food they found in their mystery boxes.

The top three mystery box dishes belonged to Evan, Quani, and Avery.

  • Evan: After having his pasta fall short in the egg yolk ravioli challenge, Evan decides to use the mystery box to redeem himself. He uses canned pumpkin, and sweet potato to make sweet potato pumpkin ravioli with black truffle sauce.
  • Quani: Used pineapple, peaches, and cherries in his vanilla bean pineapple filled cupcakes.
  • Avery: Used canned coconut milk, pineapples and cherries to make a modern version of pineapple upside down cake.

  • Avery wins the mystery box challenge and a spot in the top eight. Holy Golden Ticket Batman

In the final challenge, the junior chefs are tasked with creating a chocolate dish worthy of winning the MasterChef Golden Apron. Gordon tells the chefs the golden apron advantage is the best advantage in MasterChef history. The winner of the golden apron secures a spot in the semi-final. Though they will still cook in the remaining competitions, the bearer of the golden apron cannot be eliminated before the semi-final.

    Bottom Four

Remy, Cade, Anthony, and Evan created the judges' least favorite dishes of the night. Cade attempted to make beignets. The pastry was heavy and appeared to look like chocolate dusted rocks. Instead of filling the pastries Cade opted to place the sauces he made for the dish on the side as dipping sauces. Joe refuses to taste the dish because of the presentation. It doesn't help Cade's case any when he admits he didn't taste the dish before presenting it to the judges. Remy gives the judges tough under seasoned short ribs that fail to wow Christine and Gordon.

Evan attempts to make German Chocolate cupcakes with pecan frosting. Joe tells him the sponge is dry and unremarkable and frosting has a waxy consistency.

Anthony gives the judges chocolate filled cream puffs. The cream puffs were executed well but the filling was thick and gelatinous almost like pudding. Joe mentions to Anthony the filling is unpleasant and bit off. Anthony disagrees and gives Joe a little attitude. Whether he knows it or not he just signed his return ticket back home by giving Joe attitude.

The judges send Anthony and Cade home after tasting everyone's dishes.

Gordon announces the best dishes of the night belong to Mikey and Beni. Mikey made chocolate hazlenut cheesecake, Beni made a cocoa crusted filet mignon with a parsnips puree and parsnip chips. The MasterChef Golden Apron was awarded to Mikey. He's safe from elimination until the semi-final round.
