The Reunion They Probably Never Wanted
Eric can't turn the sat phone on remotely, but he does tell the team that several calls were made from one location: a hotel. Kensi and Deeks stage a fight to distract the men following Sam and Callen. And once they're clear of their shadows, they check out the hotel. After Sam "picks the lock" (by kicking in the door after the others fail), they find a note waiting for them: "Go home, kids."
But the Jones sisters and Harley do find a lead: Kim, who sent a birthday card to one of Hetty's aliases in the right time period. It turns out that Kim came to the US in 1978 from Saigon. As Kim tells them, Hetty helped her family come over after the war. Kim also reveals that Hetty always stayed with a monk at a monastery when she was in Vietnam.
It's at that monastery that they find out that Hetty was there a few months ago until a man came. That monk can't tell them anything else, but there's someone there who can: Rio Syamsundin. He's actually CIA Officer Jeff Carol. (Sabatino later confirms his identity but warns them that he's "borderline insane," which they already know from last time they crossed paths).
Jeff explains that he was working the money laundering case for six years and wasn't going to let them blow it for him. So why is he there? There was chatter about an American agent being captured and sold to the highest bidder, but they didn't know what the situation was until their people showed up, he says. Their people, meaning? Chegwidden, Langston and Bridges. The gang's all there.
At this point, Hetty's old team brings everyone up to date. (Hetty was lured to Vietnam with news of Harris Keane and then grabbed.) Dang operates out of an isolated area, and no one goes in or out without him knowing. Their only way in is to be dropped in by helicopter. And thanks to Jeff, they also have guns (not that Kensi will need one to rip out one of his eyes if he winks at her again).
But that doesn't mean that it's all smooth sailing from that point. They don't know exactly where Dang is, and they can't get a drone to fly over to give them an idea of what they're walking into. Oh, and then there's the matter of Jeff informing Sam and Callen that if they can't get Hetty out, he has orders to neutralize the threat, in the interest of national security.
Needless to say, they're not going to let that happen, and Sam can't guarantee that he won't kill Jeff even if it's not just to stop him and protect Hetty.
Even though everyone's there for the same reason -- to save Hetty -- that doesn't mean that they all get along. Callen issues orders, and Hetty's old team takes issue with that. (But, hey, they did leave a man behind last time.)
Then they think they've lost Brides, only to find out that he took another bathroom break, leading to him and Deeks getting into it. (But did anyone think that everyone would magically get along just because they're in a foreign country to rescue someone they all care about? Of course not.)
Eric tries to get Mosley's help in getting the team images of Dang's camp, but it's Nell who gets her to do what they need. She walks into her office, points out that it's all on Mosley if the mission goes south and she'll be the one to take the fall. So she might as well go all in and dials the appropriate number before putting Mosley on the phone. With that, they have their satellite images, and Eric gets them to the team.
Meanwhile, Dang offers Hetty a drink, which she refuses at first. However, he warns her that it's only going to get worse, and she takes the whiskey.
Hetty Lied
With the team watching back in Ops, the team moves in on Dang's camp, taking out soldiers one or two at a time, until they get to Dang. "Where is she?" Callen demands after knocking him down. Before they find Hetty, they find Harris Keane -- and he's alive.
As for Hetty, she's chained up and being tortured by the man who wants to buy her when Sam and Callen make their entrance, taking out all the men in the room with her, including Spencer Allen. "It's about bloody time," she tells them as they free her, and Kensi and Deeks join them. She did know they'd come for her.
As for Dang, Callen throws him in a cell, and Hetty turns down the gun he offers her. She may have told him that this would end with a bullet in his head, but she thought of something better and lets the tiger into his cell.
It's time to go home, though Kane doesn't know what that is anymore. "It's with us now," Hetty tells him before falling asleep against Callen on the helicopter.
Nancy Drew and Togo
With the Jones sisters, Sydney was always Nancy and Nell was the dog, but that changes once Eric tries to defend Nell and tells her sister that she's a bully. Nell doesn't have much time at the moment to talk to her sister since they're looking for Hetty. But Sydney reveals that she thinks Nell is perfect, with the better grades, her popularity and athleticism growing up.
Eric, Nell and Sydney briefly apologize before focusing on the mission. But once Hetty's rescued, the sisters talk. Sydney asks why she never mentioned that she hated being Togo, and Nell admits that she just wanted to spend time with her big sister. They leave things on a pretty good note, and this hopefully means a better relationship for them moving forward.
What did you think of the mission to rescue Hetty? Did you like seeing Rio/Jeff again? Do you think this should be the last time we see Hetty's old team? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
