Carrie Ann Inaba reveals name, finale details of all-athletes 'Dancing with the Stars' season

GoldDerby Fri, Mar 23 11:30 AM CDT
The shortened all-athletes season of "Dancing with the Stars' finally has a name. Are you ready? You better be sitting down. Bet you never could've guessed this. It's… "Dancing with the Stars: Athletes."
Judge Carrie Ann Inaba shared the title while co-hosting Thursday's "Live with Kelly and Ryan" with Ryan Seacrest after fans expressed concern about the show's status. "Dancing" typically returns the third week of March for its regular spring seasons, which was, obviously, this week.
"I want to reassure people because people are a little frightened. We're coming back April 30. It's going to be four weeks. It's called 'Dancing with the Stars: Athletes' … and we're going to have 10 couples," Inaba said. "It's like a real season, but it's just tight, it's compact, it's competitive."
"Dancing" conjured up this truncated season to make room for ABC's "American Idol," which currently airs on Sundays and Mondays, and will cede the latter to "Dancing." The two shows will share a finale night on Monday, May 21, Inaba revealed, with "Dancing" airing a one-hour finale, instead of a two-hour one, leading into the "Idol" closer.
"Our finales are on the same night," Inaba told Seacrest. "We go from our finale first, I think it's a little short, and then it goes right into yours. It's going to be a big night."
It was, however, news to Seacrest..
"I'm glad you're here to tell me my schedule," he joked. "This is nice."

  1. NOT EVERYONE LIKES "AMERICAN IDOL" AND WILL MISS "DWTS" AS IT USUALLY IS. WOULD LIKE TO SEE, DEREK, JULIANNE AND MARK BACK ON THE SCHEDULE. THEY ARE THE BEST!!!
  2. Too short and I'll miss the regular line-up of dancers. Whose idea was this anyway? Did you ask any of the fans? Boo to DWTS.
  3. I hope we get to see some REAL CELEBRITIES THIS YEAR. There will never be any Stars on the show as good as Derek & Julianne. Wish they would come back as contestants for the ball. Seems the last few years I haven't even heard of half of the so called contestants that dance with the Stars.
