There is now a conviction in the death of a 10-year-old Carrie Underwood fan

She was just a little girl heading home from a Carrie Underwood concert. Then the unthinkable happened.

  

Back in 2016, as Carrie Underwood stepped on the stage to accept her Female Vocalist trophy at the American Country Countdown Awards, fans quickly realized something was wrong.

"I want to thank one fan in particular," she said quietly. "Isley Thibodeaux, this one is for you."

Shortly afterward, country music fans discovered the core of Carrie's sadness stemmed from the death of 10-year-old Isley, who was killed April 24, 2016 by a supposed drunk driver on her way home from a Carrie Underwood concert at the Cajundome in Lafayette, Louisiana. According to police reports, a vehicle allegedly crossed the center line and struck another vehicle head-on, killing Isley and seriously injuring her mother, Misty Thibodeaux.

And now, months later, this story continues with news that the driver, Albert Kirk Sampy, has been convicted of vehicular homicide and negligent injury. According to news reports, the culprit has "received the maximum sentence of 30 years on the vehicular homicide conviction and 15 years on the negligent injury conviction," the Daily Advertiser reports.

It's truly a sad story that seems to get sadder by the minute. Police came to find out that Albert had a long history of not only reckless driving, but also armed robbery, simple robbery, theft, resisting arrest, domestic abuse and disturbing the peace.
