It was evident watching the season 13 premiere of The Voice that this is going to be a great season. We've moved away from the cutesy-ness of Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani , and now it's just all great music, as he's joined by fellow coaches Miley Cyrus, Adam Levine and new coach Jennifer Hudson.

Jennifer, previously a winning coach on the UK version of The Voice, just couldn't help coaching the contestants even during the audition stage, though it didn't always win them over. It's not going to help her much during night two, however, as many of the contestants fit into the country genre.

Keisha Renee ("I Can't Stop Loving You")

Keisha, 30, of Inglewood, California, believes that it's good that the coaches can't see her because she wants to break the mold of what a country artist should look like. Gospel music is in her genes, but she's become open to all genres. Though she previously sang background for Nicki Minaj, she also loves country music. Previously really heavy during a high-risk pregnancy with her daughter, she has now lost the weight.

She definitely tackles the country genre really well and gets chair turns from all four coaches, as Jennifer says, "Sing, girl!" She asks what church Keisha goes to, as she knows she's hearing church in that voice. She also wonders what her true focus is, wanting to help her create her own lane. Adam figures he's in trouble because she's singing something Blake would do with Jennifer's voice and Miley's style. Miley explains that Nashville is thriving right now because they're putting a new face to the music. Blake boasts that country music is his life, which is probably the reason she picks him as her coach.
Result: Keisha joins Blake's team

Dylan Gerard ("Say You Won't Let Go")

This 28-year-old nurse's assistant of Macclenny, Florida, while he looks very unstated, gives a terrific emotional performance. Just before the chorus, Adam and Jennifer turn their chairs, followed by a standing ovation fromAdam, who explains that he was able to feel something and that's why he turned around. Jennifer sees potential in him and thinks he has more than he even realizes he has and does yet more quick coaching, leading to a performance that Miley calls "dope." This spells trouble for Adam, but surprisingly Dylan goes with Adam because he's a fan of Maroon 5.
Result: Dylan joins Adam's team

Maharasyi ("Tell Me Something Good")

Maharasyi gets subtitles, as she starts by speaking in Indonesian. Her entire family is from Indonesia, but she was born in Los Angeles. Shet went to Indonesia to be raised after her father left the family because her mother was having a hard time raising a family and working two jobs. The 27-year-old fell in love with music watching her aunt, who is "like the Whitney Houston of Indonesia." Maharasyi recorded there as well but came back to the US to be with her family. She's looking to be coached by the talented Miley.

But she's not like the Indonesian Whitney Houston; she's more like a soulful Jennifer Hudson, who turns around when she obviously hears the same quality. Maharasyi then gets her wish when Miley turns around as well. Adam is happy that she chose the song as "Chaka Khan is, like, my crush." Jennifer wonders why she shied away away from the end note because she thinks she had it. She obliges Jennifer and hits it. Miley felt her nerves were holding her back and wants her to believe in herself as much as she does. Maharasyi switches her plans and goes with Jennifer as her coach.

Result: Maharasyi joins Jennifer's team

Marlow Wells ("Love Me Now")

The 61-year-old Marlow is from Fontana, California, but he is originally from Detroit. His dad, Carl Jones, sang with the Love-Tones along with many of the Motown greats such as Smokey Robinson and Marvin Gaye. After 30 years of success at a major insurance company, he missed music and has been singing full-time the past five years. His wife is working two jobs for him to realize his dream. Another dream would be to work with Jennifer.

Despite having that Motown background, he sings this more recent song and does well, but he's perhaps not singing in the genre he's more comfortable with. No one turns around for him. Adam tells him he has a powerful, strong voice, but he missed some of the original phrasing. Jennifer explains that his voice just covered so many genres. Miley thinks she might have turned had she not gotten into her own head and questioned why the others weren't turning around.

Result: No one turns their chairs

Red Marlow ("Swingin'")

Red Marlow, 40, of Dickson, Tennessee, is bald now but explains that he used to have so much red hair he could set stuff on fire. He could be a great one for Miley, as he says, "I'm country as cornbread, from singing to skeet shooting, fishing, hunting." He grew up playing bluegrass and gospel, as his dad's a preacher. He moved on to singing demos when he first started out in music but took a step back as a family man and now runs a small construction business. He's hoping to turn a chair to know that he is good enough to do this.

Singing up onstage along with his guitar, it's obvious that he's "country as cornbread." Blake sings along and finally hits his button, followed by Miley. Adam loves seeing someone who is more country than Blake. MIley tells him she's here this season because she wants to bring a new face to country music. Red explains that he's actually met Blake before, and he'd just love to see him get the opportunity that he deserves. Red says he has to pick Blake.

Result: Red joins Blake's team

Ashland Craft ("You Are My Sunshine")

This 21-year-old from Piedmont, South Carolina, has had a steady gig at what she describes as a "honky tonk." Her dad is a mechanic and built her a studio. She explains there aren't a lot of music opportunities where she's from, so she sees this as her one chance to reach her dream.

She sings in the style of Chris Stapleton, and she absolutely kills it with perhaps the most unique performance of the night. Miley, Adam and Blake turn their chairs, and Miley is already chomping at the bit to win this performance. She says she covered that song on her tour and even sang it dressed as the sun. Adam has been trying to get a country artist throughout the series but believes she'll transcend this genre. Blake tells her there hasn't been a voice like hers on country radio since Gretchen Wilson. Ashland admits to being torn, then goes with Miley.

Result: Ashland joins Miley's team

There definitely seems to be a preponderance of country singers on this second night of the Blind Auditions.

Will The Voice be able to break out of the country genre in the remainder of the auditions? Or is this setting the tone for season 13? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
